Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Does anyone have an Olds Acheiva? I was offered to be able to buy one for $100 bucks since I am having such a time with that darn jeep. There are few things I will have to take care of on it, but the guy is a good one and is taking pity on me, he just bought a new car. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has one and what they think of it?

we found a softshell egg & a hardshell egg yesterday (our first eggs) - none today yet.
Been anxious & impatient, like a daddy waitin for a baby to be born. Guess it makes sense, since our pets (including our chikies) are kindof like our "children".
Our first time having chickens, so a lot of new excitement . . . . . & a lot of new things to learn as we go. The BYC site has been such a blessing full of knowledge, wisdom, & advice.

Yay!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! :D

I completely know how you feel! Just started getting my first pullet eggs a week ago Saturday, when my "kids" tuned 16 weeks.

And you are right, this site & all the people ARE a blessing.

Good morning!

So I spent yesterday with DH & some friends processing 6 chickens (4 roosters & 2 hens). It went nice & smoothly, and the birds turned out pretty good. The roosters were 16 weeks old that I hatched out this spring, including the 2 Brahma/EE cross that I pictured on Friday, and then 2 Brahma/BR cross. We did them to be nice roasters. The other 2 were a couple of our older hens that we just took the legs & breast meat to be slow cooked into something.

We had planned on doing our extra 14 week old rouen drake as well, but DH decided to see if we can rehome him first. So if anybody would like a nice young rouen drake, let me know!

Yay!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Thanks! iamfivewire is a good daddy to our four "reds" who are just 16 weeks and the EE's are 15 weeks. We are not sure who laid the tiny little egg, but happy to see it! We would be lost without this forum, in fact I am reading to see what happens to the bottom of the pecking order. One of my favorite EE's, Hawkie, is being run off by the runt of the dominant "Reds". Once Hawkie is run off, we do not see her until the end of the day and time to roost in the coop. Is that normal? Should I worry? Hawkie does not look in bad shape, so she seems to be either Free Ranging on her own and just staying away from the group. She is very timid where even the other EE's sort of shun her too, but they will allow her to sandwich in between them on the roost...

Quick question about tomatoes! I've heard people say that they remove all branches that don't have flowers or fruit on them in order to get larger fruit, or something to that effect. Truth? Old wives tale? I'm trying to figure out how the heck I'm going to get to my middle row of plants, and removing a LOT of branches is probably the only way I can do it. That row is mainly romas though (2 cherries on the end I think), and those usually come on later, so I'll wait if "pruning" isn't going to benefit the plants.

lost a chick over the weekend. 7 wk old jersey giant. not sure what happened. no signs of injury. i'm inclined to think the heat did it, maybe on top of something else. everyone else is still doing just fine, including the still-isolated injured Polish. she is healing up really well, i will probably start working on reintegrating her this weekend.

I just got my first "big girl" egg this morning! This is cool. Excited everyday to see what I might find!!!

And, almost a full dozen since they started a week ago Saturday, even tho all but1 are more like 1/2 eggs! Can't wait til the EEs start, should make for a nice first timer color palette (know I probably have a few more weeks since all but the FBCMs are only 17 wks old).
