Uuuuugh! I'm soooo sorry. I was right there with you a few weeks ago. It really stinks. Never thought I would cry over chickens.....but I have a few times now.
It is so sad, I am still sobbing. I took a nice collection of her feathers that I will use for my dream catcher earrings. I am really surprised it was her because she was always the fastest of the Eggers...

so senseless really. The dogs were not mean, they just don't know any better. It would not have made any difference if Brett and I were even sitting outside when they came through they probably would have gotten one of them anyway...just what untrained dogs and from what I read some trained dogs do to chickens.

On top of it all, I fell trying to save Hawkie and scraped up my right arm pretty good too. Still nice to know that I can still bounce at my age at least something good came out of this sad experience.

I am so upset...just had a couple of golden retrievers I have never seen before romp through our yard. One had a choke collar the other had no collar

They got our EE Bratty...

iamfivewire is burying her right now. I had just walked inside to use the bathroom when I saw a large dog running in the back, screamed to Brett "theres a dog in the yard" Then we heard screams, I ran outside barefoot and saw two large retrievers bounding across the street with a bird hanging from their mouth...I screamed "NO" at the dogs and they dropped the bird to run towards us. They were wagging their tails but it was too late.

The police just took the dogs away to the animal control center ... but I am so sad about what happened. Poor little Bratty, they took a big chunk out of her back. I picked her up from the neighbors yard, lots of feathers all over...

It took us two hours to find the other three EE's in the woods. Brett took the dogs to our eight foot enclosed patio and locked them in while we secured the chickens.

again I am faced with changing my signature line...sigh...
uggghhhh!!!!!!!!
I am so sorry.

My little ee tweety has bubbly eyes and is obviously irritated. No sign of respitory distress and mites are not an issue. Any thoughts? No one else is having problems. Should I get some basic saline and irrigate her eyes? She smells infectiony around the eyes (new word?). But is basically perfect other than the bubbly eye issue. Any help is much appreciated.

So Sorry Candy and Nova..

I have a hen that mounted another one of my hens today.. first time i have seen that.. not sure if its because i combined all them to scratch in the big run together.. and the roo being out there triggered something.. but she did it when she was with her group of 7 adult hens.
I have 7 adults that stay in one coop, and 6 16wk old ones and 5 14 wk old pullets and 1 ee roo..
I am guessing is a alpha thing..
