Yep, his big concern was to make sure that his cast would be on at least through the first day of school. He did see a number of school mates at the fair, etc. so even if it comes off before then, he still has earned some swagger from it...!!

Last year at the Escanaba State fair, the Easter Eggers were correctly labeled as Easter Eggers. This year, there must be someone different in charge. Since there were many plainly obvious Easter Eggers labeled as Ameraucanas. At least none were mislabeled as Araucanas! And only one duck at the entire show, sad!

Saw a lot of great goats at the market goat show. Eight this year, as opposed to only two last year (the champion sold for $20/lb live weight), so I guess the 4Hers are trying to cash in on that! All were great looking boers!

I did see something hugely worrying. During the dairy showing, I saw four alpines (all belonging to the same person) who had massive abscesses on their jaws and necks. The biggest one was the size of a mandarin orange. To me, that screams caseous lymphadentitis, which is a highly contagious viral disease that can persist in the soil for years. If it were one animal that had an abscess, I would have written it off as a fluke or injury. But four animals all belonging to the same person? Definitely not a fluke! Now I know who to avoid like the plague! My friend who I went to the show with breeds alpines, so she was just as shocked. Needless to say, she'll never buy animals from that person. Both our herds are abscess free and disease tested, and we'd like to stay clean.

wow... I'd be saying something.... to someone!

Those goats shouldn't be in a show if they had CL... even if not, I wouldn't be showing a goat with lumps all over them. eshh

I thought showing an animal meant it had to be "show worthy." I don't think an animal with abscesses all over it's face is very show worthy. That sure isn't something I would go to the fair to see.

I thought about entering my rooster (in my icon) into the fair, but we live 45 minutes from the fair that we like to go to, and that's too much to have to drive every day. I will probably be entering him next year though when we live closer.

Don't know why anyone would enter an animal that wasn't show worthy. Large bumps would seem like a ready indicator that they shouldn't be there. I apparently bruised my elbow causing fluid to accumulate resulting in a condition often called "Popeye's elbow". For just that reason alone I wouldn't enter that show even though I am an old goat.

If anyone is interested in her PM me or text me at 269-355-9312.
I will sell her for $125 O.B.O or trade for a doe (Lamancha?)

My hubby's got "preacher's knee" so I wouldn't be showing him anytime soon either. Definitely not show-worthy.

I didn't realize it but I am "show" quality. As in "show" him to the door; he has a "show" cause hearing; plus I'll "show" you for keeping chickens in the city as we "show" you out of town.
