Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Right now just about anything more unusual than a Silkie.
I had some ones that laid green eggs and a couple of the strong black Fibro-Melanin types too, the more similar to that the better of coarse.
Any full sized breed that offers some interesting features would be great as I try to start the color experiment again.

I was trying to get the deep black color with white feathers and a separate group of the green sheen black feathers with the pure black skin.
Was fun to see all the expressions of black that were possible. Kinda like playing with the knobs on an old black and white TV.

Once again I'm awake with hours to wait before the dawn. I sure wish I would wake at an hour more in line with the rest of the world. However, I am grateful that I have once again woke.

My old farmer friend says he has no intention of informing his nephew of anything and I can only hope that he doesn't. ISince the nephew has a history of suing, I forsee legal action in my future.
hmmmm... well if it were me, then I would add to the will that any persuant of legal action against you sam would result in him getting NOTHING! Stick that in your pipe nephew! ;)

Hi, I have 13 isa brown chickens (12 hens, 1 roo) and 12 buff orpingtons we thought we had 11 hens and 1 roo, but we have about 8 hens and 4 roos. So, 3 Roos are headed to freezer camp. This would open a little room for a few more chickens. Would it be a good idea to add some POL RIRs to the flock? I've been reading about the breed, and sounds like a nice dual purpose breed. I also have read they can have an aggressive personality. Any ideas?

Sumatra hen #2, hatched out 5 chicks (lost 2)... so we have 3 cuties. The turkey eggs were duds.... one a black neked neck uggo, one a fully feathered black uggo and this one with major foot feathering (black skin)

Let me know if you are interested in any purebred Araucanas. Plenty of tufted faces and rumpless booties around here! Not the black skinned birds you are looking for, but the are unique critters.

Will do, I have always been interested in them but over in China thy're just not around.

For now I have to get a coop plan ready faster than expected. There are a few offers on birds and they are a little too big for the brooder in the garage.
Time to find some recycled building materials.

If you are still in Saginaw, try habitat for humanity. They can be pricey but will bargain. Good luck.

I'm glad to hear i'm not the only late hatcher. The only thing I had incubated this year was my bantam partridge wyandottes and one of my guinea eggs then mostly lent my incubator out. But ebay had some sultans that I just couldn't resist, so I now have sultans, polish, some crevecoeur and guinea eggs in. I hope to have a couple of each hatch.

Peach blueberry jam: from Hillbilly Hen # 15051. Delicious!!! I made a batch as directed, and it didn't set well at all. although it's delicious sauce/ runny jam.. This week I tried again with modifications and it set up beautifully. I used what was in the kichen that day; Seven cups chopped peaches, five cups frozen blueberries, four tablespoons lemon juice, and more spices, all cooked for ten minutes, Then I added two boxes of the pink sure-gell mixed with one cup of sugar, and brought to a rolling boil for one minute. Then added seven and 1/4 cups of sugar, and boiled until thickened and the right temp. Took out the spices, put in jars, and water bath for ten minutes. Set up really well and tastes great. mary
