Kimmie, all dogs in the state of Michigan are required by law to have a rabies vaccination and be licensed by 4 months of age. After they are 4 months old, or if you miss the deadline to license them by each year (usually March 1st), the licensing fee goes up. This is regardless of when you obtained the dog, or how old it was when you got it. The deputies were wrong - and should maybe not have been giving you what amounted to only their opinion. You should not, however, be issued a ticket it you can prove that you just obtained the dog, and had it vaccinated and licensed immediately.

Seems like the burden of proof that they had the dog longer and didn't get it licensed, should be on the state not the new owner. I believe cats should also require one if they're going to require dogs to have one. Personal pet peeve.

Hope everyone else is doing well. I woke up today with my back all tweaked out of sorts so I'm hoping to hide out in my office today and keep it low key.



The goat shed is so close to being finished. We have to put siding on the other side (see the ladder sticking out) and the ridge vent needs added. We got the loft done and some hay stored up there already.

Personally, I think all children should be tagged and kept on a leash.

For those who were interested in seeing a chicken sleeping on a sheep. It's hard to get them on camera because every time I step into the barn, the chickens and sheep both come running, hopeful for treats.

This is Custard sleeping on Tartan. It didn't take her long to get up to come see me. They like to take siestas there with the sheep because on hot days like today, it's directly in front of the fan and on cool concrete. Besides, the sheep's wool provides snacks as well as a pillow.

"Zzzzzzz...."


"Oh, it's you. Treats?"

"Treats for me? I'm coming. Treats?"

Here's my new dog. She is a sweet dog 6 months old. The vet said she would only be about 55 pounds she's 43 now. She got her shots so I go to get her license and was told I needed a letter or something stating her age and that she was just given to me or I would be charged a fine for not getting the license on time! I had only had her a week! Then walking out I stopped to talk to the deputies for the court and told them how silly the whole thing was and they said you don't need a license if the pup is under a year now why didn't the lady tell me that. I didn't get the license because new ones here start selling in October but now I know this I don't need one till February. As for the breed she's a Australian Deerhound , not what Opa suggested lol.

My local vet has always issued the 1st license when a new dog is introduced to the family. They do that when they give the shots. Might be something to check into.
