Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

For those who were interested in seeing a chicken sleeping on a sheep. It's hard to get them on camera because every time I step into the barn, the chickens and sheep both come running, hopeful for treats. This is Custard sleeping on Tartan. It didn't take her long to get up to come see me. They like to take siestas there with the sheep because on hot days like today, it's directly in front of the fan and on cool concrete. Besides, the sheep's wool provides snacks as well as a pillow. "Zzzzzzz...." "Oh, it's you. Treats?" "I'm up! Treats?" "Treats for me? I'm coming. Treats?"
Way too cute! And your captions had me cracking up. A few months ago I didn't get the whole "chickens come runnin' assuming its treat time" thing. But I most certainly do now!!

my chickens even come running and i rarely give them treats. but they know if i come out the door from the garage i might be bringing food/treats. and they will follow me all the way out to the compost pile to see if i'm dumping anything worth eating.

Love the chickens napping on the sheep!

Raz, that sounds like great news, at least its getting some attention. And believe me, my husband works for the state and when a complaint gets to the governor and the governor asks the state workers for more info and wants to see if things are being done correctly, management usually has to drop everything else and give that close to top priority. At least that's how it happens in his department. Hopefully things will be expedited for you :)

Jlynnet, man I wish! Just too far for me to go right now :-( maybe if someone else from my neck of the woods heads up there we could work something out. Beautiful birds <3

That is so cute. Made me laugh.

UGH! Those pretty orps would have to be on the other side... a 5 hour drive is not in my...budget. LOL. And it would be more than 5 hours, because, you know, you get to talking and next thing you know, you've been standing around for an hour BSing and now it's a 6 hour trip... Bummer.

Love the sheep sleep. LOL

Tap, those pheasants are gorgeous.

I just pulled a total crazy chicken freak today. Just as you come out of the parking lot at my boys school, there is a house that has chicken statues and ornaments, but I had NEVER seen any chickens last year, even though you have a clear veiw of the coop building and run. Well, Friday morning I caught sight of a tiny little rooster, and I thought, looks like a serema, but not quite, and oh so pretty. Well, this morning, caught site of a trio, a hen and two boys. This afternoon, I decided I would show my true freakness and I pulled in the drive, got out and walked up to ring the bell at the back door. These little bantams come running up, a hen just bawking away, like they KNOW I am interested. The man comes to the door, I apologized for my intrusion and hoped he didn't mind, but what are those? Dutchies. Straight from the Netherlands.

Why oh why does there have to be another tiny little chicken that would just look adorable in my yard that I can't have? Well I could... but, I think I am running out of room!

My cucs a long with just about everything else in my garden is about done for the year. Squashes and carrots still going strong. Found this cuc and had to share cause I've never seen a yellow/orange cucumber before. Cross pollinated with something maybe?

My local vet has always issued the 1st license when a new dog is introduced to the family. They do that when they give the shots.

Might be something to check into.
I don't think I have ever had a vet issue a license, always had to go to county animal shelter

Kimmie, all dogs in the state of Michigan are required by law to have a rabies vaccination and be licensed by 4 months of age. After they are 4 months old, or if you miss the deadline to license them by each year (usually March 1st), the licensing fee goes up. This is regardless of when you obtained the dog, or how old it was when you got it. The deputies were wrong - and should maybe not have been giving you what amounted to only their opinion. You should not, however, be issued a ticket it you can prove that you just obtained the dog, and had it vaccinated and licensed immediately.
will need to call on this, we just got a new puppy, but of course he will not be fixed by 4 months so would you have to pay the extra unfixed price?
