Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Just a tip for you guys out there...  I was on the roof of the new coop, nailing rafters into place when the old neighbor guy came over and said "Tell your husband I have a nail gun if he wants to borrow it."  Yeah.  Don't say that to a woman who has a hammer in her hands.  Just don't.

ETA:

I have a few mechanics who figured this out the hard way. I put 1 out of business. Told me I had a blown head gasket, would cost 800. I said, no, I only paid 400 to buy the car; I was not paying 800 to keep it running. #@%`#) had the nerve to tell me I should talk it over with my H first.

I said loudly, in front of his PACKED lobby, I have been your customer fir over a year. In that tome, I have handled all calls, payments, arrangements, drop offs, pickups... You #%@(@)#% have never even spoken to my husband, let alone met him. Yet you have the NERVE to tell me that I need to talk it over with him! Give me my keys, now.

3 people grabbed their keys and left right after me, and the business was clised in less than a month.

Karma is fun.

And I won't even start my political input. I tend to speak graphically. Lol.

Tuesday morning I was letting the chickens out when Perry my little Polish x Silkie came running from the house where she must have been out all night. So later in the day I happened to be picking up around the house and discovered Perry under our front step that is just a wooden platform. In the evening I had to use a rake to dig her out so I could pen her up for the night. She was broody and had hoarded 10 eggs. So yesterday part way through the day I can't find Perry and she is again under the porch. So we fished her out and rolled all the eggs out. I set them on the porch to be looked and dealt with later. Last night as I go to pen everyone up for the night, Perry is sitting on her eggs on the porch. Very persistent little girl.

I want to do this but was worried about the leaves getting moldy...any issues with that?

I wait until the oak leaves fall and bag them in chicken food bags. They are dry and like potato chips to my goats all winter. In the spring I still had a mess and they were as dry as the day they got bagged. I also have one of those lightweight yard leaf containers that has a large opening. That's where I grab from. Just get them on a nice dry day and don't dig down in the wet ones.

I have to relocate a few salamanders that have been living in a well pit probably since the 60's. I've got to back fill the pit and was wondering if anyone had an idea where I should put the family? PM me if you have a good idea.

you don't know what fun is until you've pulled the same 104 stitch row out of the hat you're knitting 4x before you get the pattern right.

(if it doesn't fit DS when it's all done I think I might cry)

The GOOD news on that is that I think I finally have it [fairisle knitting] figured out and hopefully i'll be able to start and finish the hat I decided to knit for my niece BEFORE her birthday instead of after.

I'm getting 4 eggs per day out of almost 20 hens, but most of them are in full-on molt. I think my black australorp is going to have bare patches soon. Poor girl looks absolutely pathetic right now.

Laughing here because I understand what you are going through! Love to see the hat when finished. I stick to one color items for now, but now that I know you are experienced with fairisle I have someone to consult when I goof it up

Actually, not "can", "HAVE to buy" insurance....

Ok...now I am really getting ticked, here are just 2 stories on our forum...wonder what we are gonna be seeing over the next week or so (assuming the media reports the good & bad fairly...LOL!!! Right !!!!! (More heavy sarcasm))....

Sorry, I am usually "the glass is half full" kind of person....but not at the moment....

BUT, speaking of putting food on the table.....SUCCESS! Fresh venison! Got me a nice doe this evening. Same as last year...first deer on 2 Oct!!

someone hit a doe last night and left the body in my front yard. Not a happy sight early in the am when I leave for work...Such a waste...

Good morning Michigan, another beautiful day in the Straits area, light south wind and thin cloud banks. Maybe a little rain later, but good for the newly planted lilacs. Went to Horrock's while visiting in Lansing and got a Lilac "Monge" on sale, hope it is as beautiful as it's description.

John, Raz knows a lot about little water critters, PM him.

Oh, so sorry. You are right, what a waste. The sheriffs dept will give you a tag if you hit a deer! In fact, here they usually have a list of families that are in need of meat.

I wasn't kidding when I said in an earlier post that I have a tarp in my trunk & a buck knife...in fact, since DH has his truck, I had to put my doe in my trunk this morn to take to the processor...I should've taken a pic of her hind legs sticking thru into my back seat :D
