Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I'm still putting a scoop of food grade DE in their feed( I do 1c to 40lbs of pellets) and I sprinkle it in the coop and around the outside of the run and a lil in the dust bath once a wk. Is this still necessary as it is getting cold and bugs, parasites and worms should be gone soon? I also put ACV in their water dishes twice a wk with a lil garlic for stopping worms, don't want to do all this if the cold weather kills everything off anyways. Thanks for any help
Do you not eat the eggs while doing this?

Hi, everybody have been peeking in and reading

Hope everybody's good. Only had a couple soft eggs so maybe soon?

They are lovely. Can I ask where you got the ducks? I've been looking for a couple of females.

Eggs are perfectly safe to eat while worming birds with DE or pumpkin. The chemical dewormers are the ones that create a problem and eggs you should avoid eating.

Mine are laying a little more sporadically right now. Lela is molting. I didn't expect this as she is only 8 months, but have read, while not common can happen..no bugs or parasites. Eating normal, pooping normal..just really starting to look a little funny!

Had been getting 9/day (from 10 layers), then 6 the last few days...but today 8. And one of them is the largest jumbo I have gotten to date...89g. Won't fit in an egg carton. Poor girl has probably been holding out for a few days!

Here it is in a carton with large/XLs...

I really like my new toy! :D No more hand milking! It usually take me about 25 minutes to milk Bella by hand, but with my milker, 10 minutes!!!

Yes we eat the eggs. It's a recipe I got from fresh eggs daily.com actually. 40lbs layer feed-1c food grade DE-5c all natural oats and 3c cracked corn and I mix it all together in a steel can. I just don't want to waste the DE if not needed this time of yr. Also the ACV(apple cider vinegar) in their water is good for us too.

black copper Marians lay a very dark brown egg,

as others have said you only toss the eggs if using chemical wormers, and some of them are safe for human consumption, according to vet at MSU Ivermechtin is OK and is used on humans for purists that said,I would not sell any eggs after using chemical wormers as you never know if some one may be allergic to the chemical
