Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Thanks for the response TC... I figured as much on the no food. Have you ever had them get injured during the crating up process? Edited to Add: that was a very difficult task! The 2nd one I got into the crate had some kind of wing injury when I put it in the crate

From being trampled by the flock during the mayhem and panic of me being inside their pen. I am so sad about this. I really wanted it to be stress free for them.
I know what you mean about the panic. Ours seem bullet proof (Muscovies) and we have never had an injury to "them", only to us; their claws are wicked sharp.

I'm surprised though. Ours trample themselves when we take treats out and we have never had an injury - perhaps that one of yours had a weakness in the wing that went unnoticed until the crating?!?!?

I don't know what they heck happened but I felt absolutely horrible. I got out to the pen today in the daylight and I saw one of the house's windows, which had been jammed closed by me, was open. So perhaps he flew directly into that with force? I don't know, but the crating up part was by far the absolute worst part of it. I only wish that I knew exactly how that happened, to prevent it in the future. That was bad.

x3 On speedy recoveries to those that are having procedures done.

Hopefully it was a one time fluke holly

The pears are on the counter cooling. It's good to have a task completed and have it look like you wanted it to. They are in a light cinnamon flavored syrup and will sure taste good later this winter. Granny had thought I was making pear preserves so she was surprised that I got done as quickly as I did.

Now a pot of great northern white beans is simmering on the stove so that when Hope gets home the only thing we'll need to do is fix a pan of corn bread.

Saw this today and thought of a few rude people that this could almost be a justifiable action.

Those pears look good. Care to share your recipe? I still have beets to can.

After nearly 2 weeks of having no truck, I am back on the road again. And just in time. These canaries are bulking up for their migration. It amazes me that such small birds can eat and drink so much. Four quarts of food a day plus 1/2 a squash. They drink a little more than 2 quarts of water too.

Greetings and Salutations,
I have been back for a few months but just now got the chicken urge back. So I thought I would jump back on here and look up some of my old friends. I hope you’re all doing well! And I hope the people that were nice enough to help me out and took my chicks before I got deployed are happy with them and they are good producers. I plan on building a brand new coop this coming spring. I can’t wait!!! I may be looking to some of you to buy chicks from. I’m only looking to raise about 8 this go around (but I’m going to build the coop to hold 20…lol).
Enough rambling…..It’s good to be back here!
