Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Hello, All!

Just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself - I am new here. I live in Michigan and just started keeping chickens this last April - and I love it!

Great bunch of people here. Where in MI are you located?

Phew. Just finished the LAST of my apples. I know what I am asking my mom to get me for XMAS. An apple peeler! Last year she got me my All American pressure cooker...seems every year I am finding more (or better) things I need for food preservation.

I don't plan on peeling another apple til next fall. Think I have canned enough applesauce, pie filling & apples for baking to be good for the year :D

Hey RaZ and whoever else has or is or might sew bags out of upcycled feed sacks. Glad, was it you? I'm sorry my brain is blank now. Anyway, I was looking for the thread that was in the hobbies but not able to locate that. Wanted to ask, how many times were y'all changing needles during each bag? I don't think my machine likes that "fabric." Also. Who lined their bags and did you do it with binding tape or with turning? Thanks in advance for your help. You know that I appreciate You!

I haven't changed a needle in years. Are you changing them because they are dull? Or are they breaking?
I've rarely had a needle get so dull that it needed to be replaced, but it has happened. Again after a pretty long time.
I've replaced needles that I've broken, but I find it was because I was trying to force something through and I bent the needle or otherwise "helped" it to break.

As for lining, I have not lined a feed bag. For the other things I've lined, I use my serger (Elna 686) for a variety of liners. Depending on the liner material, I either cut it smaller and stretch it a bit or I use a little of spray fabric glue to tack it in place. It depends on the base material and the liner material.
