Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Uchytil, beautiful barn. Looks to be very well built. While I have built pole barns, I always advice my customers that a conventional stick built building is a much better investment. With many locales requiring a "rat wall" footing, and with the addition of any interior improvements, the cost difference is minimal, but the final product is something to be proud of. The largest gambrel roof barn we have built to date was a 32'x80' with 14' sidewalls.

Today turned out to be about friendship. Last night my friend of almost 50 years called and we tentatively planned on going to our deer blinds if it wasn't raining. So this morning as I sat drinking coffee and watch the rain fall, I was a little surprised when he showed up. He had decided that since the rain would prohibit either of us from doing anything outside we might as well go take my old farmer friend to lunch.

Since I was just with Marvin on Thursday he was surprised when we showed up but as soon as we suggested lunch he had his coat on almost before the words were out of my mouth.

Oh my!
That is exactly what I want!! Would you pm me where you got plans and an idea
On what it cost? Beautiful job, I love it!

What are they asking for the cow?

Trying to get things done around here but it's tough with DH still OUS on a job.

I finally got to breed the new FG buck Friday, so I'll be anxious to see what they produce!

There are quite a few good men on this forum! It's nice to know ... They do exist
I sat down at my drafting table and designed it. I'll shoot you a PM later with more details. I got up too early and the coffee isn't ready yet, lol! Hope that FG did a good job. I just rescued a lop. Not to happy about the circumstances it was living in. I wish kids parents would say no to cute bunnies that get thrown outside when they get less cute and bigger, grrrrr....Didn't ask about the cow. I'll probably mosey over and ask. I'm sure my neighbor is getting them cheap. It's that local friend network thing.

The word Sunday (from Wikipedia): The English noun Sunday derived sometime before 1250 from sunedai, which itself developed from Old English (before 700) Sunnandæg (literally meaning "sun's day"), which is cognate to other Germanic languages, including Old Frisian sunnandei, Old Saxon sunnundag, Middle Dutch sonnendach (modern Dutch zondag), Old High German sunnun tag (modern German Sonntag), and Old Norse sunnudagr (Danish and Norwegian søndag, Icelandic sunnudagur and Swedish söndag). The Germanic term is a Germanic interpretation of Latin dies solis ("day of the sun"), which is a translation of the Ancient Greek heméra helíou.[2] The p-Celtic Welsh language also translates the Latin "day of the sun" as dydd Sul.

At any rate, it's shining bright and I hope it stays that way today. We've seen far too little of its life-giving light and no amount of bottled vitamin D (not even my Dr.'s prescribed 40,000 iu) can properly make up the deficit. Ahhhh, Michigan.

The Sun is Out!!!

Very pretty barn, it has that old barn look.

chicks!! Those would be fun right now but....

Spent the afternoon yesterday with family. My Aunt and Uncle have been here for a month from Alaska and getting ready to head back. We sat around listening to stories. The best is from two years ago. They were traveling here in a small motor home. My Uncle got out at a rest stop while my Aunt was sleeping in the very early a.m. He decided not to wake her as there was a rest stop in another 50 miles (middle of nowhere ND) Unbeknown to him, she also went in to use the rest room and he left her there. While sitting there waiting my aunt had a gentleman call the cops on her, but before they arrived he met my Uncle at the next rest stop and told him he had forgotten his wife. He hadn't believed her until he saw the motor home and my Uncle waiting for my Aunt to wake up and come out. Needless to say my Uncle will now hear that story told wherever he goes.

If you haven't already seen this, It is a wonderful farmer tribute, not only to the lost farmer but to the nature of all farmers.

Worked half the day on the chicken run. Found some 8ft cedar posts on CL for $2, went and got a bunch of them and DH put them a few ft in ground and then connected a 2x4 to ea of them running down. Now all I have to do is throw the bird netting over it and tarp over the 1 comin from the coop for shelter and it will be fixed again. We also got the poles in and 1/2 the fence up for the duck run. They will have 100sq ft same as chickens. However, was smarter and got a 6ft fence this time and should be easier to cover top now. I only have a 3ft fence for the chickens now and maybe next yr I can switch it out. Alot to do today so hopin for better weather. Eggs sure are alot of work
