Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Lady I totally get the Holiday drama with family. Last Christmas there were two near fistfights at my DH's family get together. We always dread his family's holidays. So this Thanksgiving for the first time since we have been married - 19 years- we didn't go!

We talked about the fact we didn't really want to be there and that the only reason we were going was to make his mom happy and to see her. We have always had Thanksgiving on Saturday at our own home so we could do everything else on Thursday. We invited his mom over to see us on Saturday - so far she hasn't responded. Anyway it was not crazy like most years and actually enjoyable! We accepted an invitation to see family from out of state who were around for the day and had a great time. I'm already trying to think of how we can change Christmas. I have come to the conclusion his family will never change or understand our way of life so why try fight it.

Yesterday I finally gathered 4 eggs that survived the cold and dog. I also spent part of the day cleaning coops. It is so much less work when everything is frozen! A few weeks back I had determined my pheasant pen was not sufficient for the winter. I only had 2 pheasants left, both hardy, so I decided to put them in with the chickens knowing they would not likely stay. The male stayed hours and the female a day and then flew off. I felt super irresponsible for letting them go but knowing they would likely escape after the first snow decided I would like them to adjust before the snow. I put their little box out where I knew they were with food in it and worried about them during our recent storm. Now they seem totally at home roaming about. They come daily to eat and check out the chickens. They and the wild rabbits go and eat from their box and they have made themselves at home under one of our large pine trees. I do still worry about the coyotes. I saw fresh tracks yesterday.

My family is in Germany for the holidays. But I don't get to be alone during it. I work, so I can spend it with the residents at the nursing home I am a CNA at. Of course, it'll be business as usual, with them getting a Thanksgiving meal as opposed to a usual one.

I actually wasn't supposed to work, but I took the day for a coworker. He has family from out of town, and my family isn't in town, so it made a good swap. Can't argue with time and a half, either!

I baked a pecan pie to share with my coworkers. Not sure if anyone else is bringing any treats, but at least we get this one!
Thank you for that. My wife is an Activities Director and most of the staff took it off so she worked too.

I too find myself especially thankful this year. All of the usual things to be thankful for come to mind now, but when one faces the grim reaper
and knows it and draws back from that "bright light ", thanksgiving takes on a whole new dimension. Enjoy this special day and bring joy to others.

I wonder how many of us saw the beaytiful double rainbow ? I think it was last week. I had never seen one prior to that one.

BTW Great picture of the bow and barn. Thanks.
Hi Bob. You probably saw the same rainbow I did since we live down the road apiece!

Farmerboy, forgot to congratulate you yesterday! Also, LOVED their baby announcement :D. Also, how did Grace's family like the turkey you brought for T-Day dinner????

Hopefully your wife had a good time with the residents on Thanksgiving! A shame she had to work though when she had family she could have been home with.

I actually had to work a mandatory double shift. The night shift worker called in 'sick'. Not the first time that specific person has done that on a holiday. So I worked 16 hours. But still had to work my normal shift the next day. So I was in for 16 hours, off 8 hours (two hours of that was driving time, and another two were taking care of the neighbor's horses and my animals too, so I only got four hours of sleep) then on for another 8. I was kinda slap happy by the end of it all. I basically was running on autopilot and a pot of coffee. The nurse made sure I called her when I finally made it home, she wanted to be sure I got home safe.

So I just had the next night's sleep ever. At least the paycheck should be pretty nice. Holiday pay is time and a half, and so overtime. I did both, so it is doubletime, I think.

When my mom was still on this world, My family use to travel to Chicago to spend Thanksgiving with my family. Well, my four older brothers are all very stronged willed and passionate about their beliefs. There was always drama and near fist fights.

First year after mom died, my nephew came here to spend Thanksgiving with us. He was amazed how quiet and fun the holiday could be.

I had a grand Thanksgiving with my kids and grand kids. I'm so thankful for them all. It's what I live for.

I'm thankful for all of you guys, who help me when I ask, and for you Opa, because you always take my calls! :)

My ducks I believe are thankful for these warmer temperatures! They are behaving like totally different ducks now that its no longer freezing! I am thankful too.
