Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

People who guarantee sex of chicks should be accountable. Unfortunately some of them are not responsible. I got burned that way with my first chick purchase. At least five of twelve hens crowed and did other rooster things. I was so gullible, I even returned the roos, believing they would be replaced with hens of a similar age and breed. As I said ......... s l o w.
Yeah me too. Maybe the same place. I had 2/3 of my first years flock sexed wrong and 1/2 of the hens died. Which is why I didn't go back the second year. Last years was a good flock until the attack. So it's taken 2 years of learning and doing and I know i'm nowhere near done learning. But I enjoy the learning, just not the losses.

Ya know John, I found myself wondering mor than a few times what happened to some of the people you mentioned plus some others. Why do we come and go? Could be an interesting sociological study, right RaZ? What do they call those charts with the arrows to and from contacts?

My sex-links were all hen/rooster as they were supposed to be. I don't think you can mess up gender with Isa Browns. My Buff Orpingtons however were about 1/2 roosters 1/2 hens. They were checked at day old chicks based on the feather sprouts on their wings. Next time I'll just buy the straight run and donate the money I save...

I feel the same way... I'm more of a lurker but I read and appreciate all posts, and if I if have anything to contribute, I post. No big deal for me if no one replies.
I've been on byc for about a week, but I have used the site as reference for a while, and I got my first chickens last spring. I love having those wonderful hens in my backyard, they're beautiful, sweet, and they give me fresh eggs. Everyone has been really friendly and knowledgeable.

I'm a watcher more then a poster.

New topic. We got four new chickens.

Happy New year everyone, hope we all have a great new year ahead of us..

Will the chicken stock be somewhere north this year.. or is it always in lansing..

Congrats on the new eggs, and that the goats have healthy delivery in march.

I know for me sometimes i get on here and i do miss stuff when i am quickly reading through and sometimes i will catch it when someone is posting about it then i will go back and see whats going on. so if i have missed something important its not intentional.. i do have to admit that if i am off here a few days sometimes i dont even read to catch up because its to many pages.. or when i do, i sometimes forget what i have read from the beginning and for get to post a sorry or recognition.. which i think easily happens..

Cute polish chicken

I'm not talking about a missed post here and there. Of course that happens. I only brought this up because of several people feeling this way. I am not the only one! Just wanted you all to be aware of WHY the folks are leaving. I know there are several reasons why people leave, but this is one that we can make a change! With a little consideration, we can again become a fun place to socialize. Share the ups and downs of chickens keeping and of our lives. I have pulled back, but not left. Is there hope??
Lady, I usually walk around at Chickenstock trying to talk to everyone. Please join me/us at the lunch table. I don't want you to feel left out. I know it's hard when you are not outgoing and feel like a stranger. But, with a little effort, you'll have lots of friends to sit and talk with. Please come!
