Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Yet once again Mother Nature has decided to ignore my feelings on the subject and is sending us another round of snow. I know it no longer holds the same attraction it once had. Now the forecasters are saying we could be blessed with 5-7 more inches.

I was hoping that we would get a respite so that David and I could get into the woods at our farmer friends. He heats his house with wood and we didn't check when his nephew informed us that he had a winter's supply of wood stacked in the barn. As it turned out there wasn't enough to even get him through January.

The deep snow drifts makes it impossible to get to the woods to cut more so we were hoping that a few days of no snow would allow us to plow our way in. I had a friend take him 2 face cords last week but that will soon be gone. Fortunately he has a dual heating system so he can switch over to propane if necessary.

My flock had been laying quite well and then production dropped drastically. Two days in a row they only gave me 2 eggs and then yesterday it was up to 5. Hopefully it will pick by up soon.

I'm hoping that my dropping my USB flash drive into my cup of coffee isn't a portent of how the day is going to proceed.

Hmmm...maybe I shouldn't mention the forecast for today here in Huntsville, AL. Well, 60...BUT, even with the snow coming up there, I would rather be home than down here in a hotel for the weekend. Only saving grace is my day at the spa today, which I am really looking forward to.

On the way "home" I may further treat myself by enjoying a nice German dinner at a very good restaurant just down the road from me :D

more googling.......

that is a lot of recalls, why is it we don't hear about these How can you recall something if you keep it a secret?
Nothing yet. But then again it might be wishful thinking
Knowing that does little to mitigate impatience.

What are these canary's y'all are talking about?

Congratulations on your test by the way, what was it for?

TSC and Farm & Home are out of pine shavings, in Lowell and GR

I was told it has something to do with the weather

I buy pine shavings at the feed mill in Caledonia. It's cheaper and the bales are much bigger. Whether or not they're in stock at the moment, I couldn't tell you. One of these days we're going to bump into each other at TSC though, I swear.

Come on sales guy get here! Sooner the better!

snowflake, Last time i went in about a month ago, they were out also. The counterman told me they had something similar in wood shavings bundles priced about the same. So I gave them a try. A little denser without the pine smell but adequate and the birds love it. He said they carry their pine shavings through the chick day sales and when they run out, they dont usually replace them until spring again. Farm and home had same story. Bummer! Try the wood shavings if you can find them.

the snow is already falling pretty steady here in mid Michigan. Expecting anywhere from 5-8 inches total today. It is heavy, wet snow.

Opa, rinse your usb with water, wipe it dry then let it dry out all the way and it should be fine. The key to it is to let the interior dry out. Putting it in a bag of uncooked rice for a day or two works well.
