Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Well, it happened...shed roof partially collapsed, roof peak dropped about a foot. Very old metal shed, was here when I bought the place.
Luckily nothing stored in there that can really be damaged from water. Luckily was able to remove the door to get inside and brace it from falling farther and got a lot of the snow off...will pick at it the rest of the day and try and figure out what to do with it in the future. ****! At least it wasn't the house or the coop shed.

It's 35 here then down to 32 then back to 35. Crazy for sure. We have a creek that cuts the edge of our property and we are the lowest property so we usually get some ground flooding on the low side. We also live near where the creek empties into the nearby river so until everything levels off we have water on that side of the property. More annoying than anything else. The property would be a lot nicer if the county would fix the drainage ditch to the creek, but likely not going to happen any time soon. I just cant wait for the ice to finish melting our drive way is almost a solid sheet of ice now!

Oh no!! There have been a few roofs collapsing up here. The most notable one was the very old (abandoned) bowling alley near us. Whole building caved in when the roof went earlier this week. My husband went and looked at a friend's roof last night because they had water spots on ceilings on both sides of the roof, but it appears that moisture is no coming in from ice dams, but somehow from the gable ends........of course they JUST bought the house in December after renting it for a year and a half.

Yes, there have been a ton of commercial roof collapses around here too...and a few residential. A lot of ice dam issues too. I have been lucky that I increased attic ventilation and doubled the insulation on this house a couple years after I bought it and have very little eave icing since....knock wood...reshingled and added a ridge vent a couple years ago.

Not sure what I'll do with this old shed, temporarily and/or permanently, if I can reroof it somehow or tear it down. My brain will be grinding thru possible solutions in the days ahead.

This thread moves so fast, a few days off and your 50 pages behind. lol I talked to the feed store and chicks will be ready to order in a couple weeks. Can't wait. Still debating over ordering some (there is no max limit, so that's good) or making a run to TSC, which would mean i could have the chicks faster.

Weather is so crazy this winter, no school again today, DH said the road was an ice rink till he hit the main rd. Luckily the chicken and duck runs weren't bad, just slushy.

My son made it to states for wrestling, so I will be falling behind here again next weekend, then finally done for awhile. I need to get a laptop or something to take with me to sporting events so i don't fall behind on my puter stuff.

The chickens are all laying good again and feathers are all in and looking good-now we just need spring!!! Hope everyone has a great weekend

Oh my gosh this weather. The wind is just so terrible, especially in the open farmland areas.

And it is my LAST day at my job. I have show up, I can't not go to work even if the roads are brutal. It is written in the policy book that during the final two weeks, any absences that aren't accompanied by a doctor's note means that person forfeits all accrued vacation and sick time. I want that to buffer my last paycheck, so I'd rather not lose it.

There was a cold storage company just a little south of us that had a roof collapse. It broke an ammonia line. Sent 3 to hospital, there was still one person in hospital. But they said "no one else was hurt, that section was storing frozen beef and turkeys" Not funny but they could have worded it better.

Well the  weather sure sucks today!  VERY gusty winds here, and of course, a snow day.  I think I may take advantage of this to print/plot my FINAL garden plan of the year.  I got everything I need to wintersowing yesterday, but forgot the duct tape to hold the milkjugs shut.  I may just get a bunch put together and have DH pick up the tape on his way home from work (NOT taking 3 kids to the store for tape!).

I know i have dill, poppies, hardy hibiscus, and coneflower seeds in my drawer......and I have an ebay watch-list FULL of other things to get once DH gets his paycheck deposited.  I grabbed some hollyhocks yesterday, and my son just HAD to have watermelon seeds.  We have NEVER had success with those, but we will continue to try i guess.

Does anyone have a favorite pickling cuke variety?
I hear ya on the gardening thing!
But my garden only has bearded iris flowers! About 3000 of them in every color size and shape!
