Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

This weather can quit already. -25 Tuesday morning, -13 this morning. I went from getting 5-8 eggs/day all winter to 12+/day in February, to getting ONE measly egg per day for a week now.

And our tractor supply still doesn't have pine shavings. If they don't have them by next weekend I'm going to have to make a small road trip to Cadillac (about an hour away) and fill the car up. I will, of course, CALL THEM before I drive all that way.
IF, it was fly fishing season for me I'd haul some up to you. The FFH and TSC seem to be in good supply here. I have to go get some today. TSC sent out a 10% couplon plus additional 5% for birdseed. I go online and print out FFH 10% coupons when they are available also. There's are sneaky and I've only found them online.

Good luck!

Anyone buy any grape vines in Michigan? And if so where? I have two kinds now but they were on the property when I bought years ago. Concord and some green variety. I make wine from my cherries, apples, maple syrup, and concords at present. I want to plant a few short rows of Muscat and maybe Pinot? Anyway, if you have solid info and have purchased only please. Thanks!

TSC in Ludington is out of pine shavings also. Spring chick sales going on and pine shavings are still on back order. Its not the store, its the supplier! Drat. FFH has some wood shavings but they are not pine. They seem to work okay and are a little denser. Will have to suffice until they start showing up at the stores.

My husband and I bought two varieties, Concord and Glenora, from Guerneys two springs ago. I was surprised that we got a few bunches that first summer. The Concords produced really well last summer and the Glenora had a few bunches on them. We had enough grapes to make 2 5 gallon carboyles, both turned out wonderful.

Thanks, Yeah, I get enough for one 6 gallon carboy from the concords. The birds eat em too fast!
