My broody keeps switching nest boxesIt has me worried since I'm putting eggs under her tomorrow. I put an old dog crate out there and moved her into it. Think she'll stay?
No. Not unless you close the door on it. Put food and water in there, put her in at nightfall and shut the door. I am thinking the other girls might be messing with this one or she's not fully broody yet. Maybe if she stays in one nest 24 hours??? Then you can open it back up and see how the other girls act. Don't bother giving her the good eggs until you are sure she will sit. If she paces in a shut cage she will end up busting the eggs, and if she nest hops they will be killed too. But if she is truly broody a nice dark protected spot is what will make her happy.my last broody spot was a little plastic dog house i threw some straw into for egg laying. The roof pops off so it was nice for egg collecting too.
I'm positive she's broody. She stayed on one nest for 48 hours. I think she is getting pushed out by the other hens. I'm not sure where she is on the pecking order. I put her in a plastic dog kennel and I am going to put food and water down and lock her in. I will clean out the poo daily and see how it goes.No. Not unless you close the door on it. Congrats on all the babies! It makes me want to come to your farm and play with them all. So much cuteness! Thanks everyone. It was a beautiful day yesterday so I took the kids outside to meet Oliver and Daisy. When I found out that Ethel was positive for CL and CAE, I found a Saanen goat breeder nearby, and brought one of her year old doe that had just given birth. She is a very sweet goat, and is tested clean of everything! Oliver has adopted her as his mother.![]()

I am more and more nervous about hatching ducks the more I read in the duck threads. And 28 days seem to take forever!
