Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

A word of caution to those with any type of machinery. Having been a professional mechanic for almost 40 years I have seen many "things" damaged by not heeding either safety features, alarms, or lights. Unless a certified shop mechanic (not the internet) has given you the green light you should follow the manufacturers guidelines on equipment exhibiting signs of problems. Better to be safe than sorry:)

That said. With today's level of technology you can certainly expect more, and more, and even more, of these bells and whistles to be giving you headaches and wondering what to do. Good luck.

Little story: Johnny Jr. borrows mommy and daddy's car and the OIL light comes on but Johnny knows better so he keeps heading on down the highway until "boom" the engine won't go no more. New engine installed and now Johnny gets to ride his bike.

Please: No more winter pictures, or stories. That's just nuts!

quick iris question for Mindy Lee or any one with Iris. mine just came in the mail, do you fertilize when you plant yours? I never have in the past, These are re=blooming and need more care???

I would plant with old manure or some nice compost, mixed in the dirt around the plant.... but I don't know if that's the right thing to do.

I don't fertilize unless using 4+ yr old poo because it could burn the rizones. Otherwise I just put in ground just barley under surface. I also soak them 24hrs after arrival to start growth since they was dried before shipped.

Who did ya get a order from? Mine came in from blue j this week.

I'm going to apologises in advance cause this most likely will be long but I need y'alls opinion on who done this.
First my set up is 2 12 x 12 horse stalls attached to a fairly large fenced in yard. My birds (16 chickens and 14 ducks) are locked in separate stalls at night butv allowed freerange of the fenced in area from 8 to 8 (during daylight period). This has been the set up for 2months with no issue. I also have a 7 yr old obese black lab that I've owned his whole life. He spends 99% loose he's very loyal. So here's what happened.
I let everyone out at 8 am went back inside to deal with my kiddos. Went back out at 10 am with treats. My Chihuahuah been on the back porchon his run the whole time within few of the coop and he goes bananas if there is anything strange in his yard. I firston the outside of my coop beside the barn I find my little roo dead. I round the corner to find dead chickens all over my coop with minimal damage no evidence on any of the 15 corpsesthat the killwr tried to eat them. Whomever did it left a fat dog whole leading under thegate. Where wire had been torn up!they only got one duck the others were cowering in the open stall and whatever it waswas gone and left them by choice.
There is nodoubt in my mind the culprit was my dog. I think that cause what other preditors, come out in day time, would slaughter all the chickens but not the ducks, and without eating/ mauling/ or stealing them for dinner. There are some (ie dh) who think it was a random predator because the dog had behaved for si long. But 4yrs prior said dog was caugyt killing neighbors chickens before we moved. What are y'alls thoughts?

Guys just. came home from work and found one of my favorite hens was egg bound, the other girls had been picking I her vent today. I got the egg out , have her inside, gave her water with an infant syringe , cleaned up her vent area with some epson salt warm water and applied prep h, she is laying quietly in a laundry basket with a small fan blowing on her. What else can I do ? She is to weak to drink on own so how often should I give her water tonight and should I give her something else?

I got them from Winterberry gardens, in VA
very healthy looking not dried out as much as I expected, they are reblooming iris however and their web sight said to fertilize in the spring as they need more then single blooming iris
They sent an extra as well as 2 of 1 that I had ordered as a single, very excited to see them bloom (hopefully next yr.) one is named Peggy Sue, our daughter that passed away last yr. so I had to buy it

so sorry, could give her a little scrambled egg or something, mostly just wait and hope the damage isn't to bad

could have been your dog, but I would think he would have had some help, my husky, did nothing for a long time then went after a rooster and very proudly carried it around the yard
my present dog is great till they go behind the fence(were they don't belong) then MOST of the time he is good
but every dog is different and I would not trust him with the chickens again unless you are sure it was not him....really seems strange that they were not mauled or de-feathered , no puncture wounds?

Dog will be finding a new home if not found not guilty. My chickens were just as much a pet as he is.chickens had small puncture wounds from teeth but they were not tried to be eaten. And no missing bodies. There were lots if feathers like they were running around, and food and water dishes were all tipped over and moved. A couple birds had small amounts of blood on feathers but none after missing patches of feathers
