Raz do you just compost the junk food, I always thought getting food from nursing homes would be good but paper, plastic and such is all dumped in together and it would be a lot of sorting

Anything that was mouldy went straight to the compost pile and mixed in. The other food stuff went to the run for poultry approval before going to the compost pile. Any plastic was easily sorted out of the pile and either recycled or trashed. Overall it was easy work and done within a half hour or so.

I see another ticket in your future.

. Wise use of resources? must be a regulation against it in there somewhere.

Hopefully tomorrow, if the weather is good. Had a robotics meeting today.

The good bread could be donated to a food pantry? Otherwise, croutons, crumbs, french toast, bread pudding...

I've got turkeys! Squee! They're so cute! There was one DOA (a Holland White), but that is not too bad.

What I got from Porter's:
Bourbon red x 1
Golden Narragansett x 1
Oregon Grey x 1
Oregon Blue x 1
Penciled Palm x 3 (two different bloodlines)
Chocolate palm x 3
Regal Red x 1
Self Buff x 2
Sweetgrass x 1

I am going to definitely keep the buffs, regal red, bourbon red, and the golden Narragansett. Which means the rest are available.

If anyone is looking to start a flock of palms, Penciled and Chocolate palms are absolutely stunning. I just prefer more red based birds. That Oregon Grey and Oregon Blue are some beautiful birds too!
pics??? :)

There sure is A LOT of hawk activity going on lately. A way to close call at a neighbors house. I was there taking care of things and looked out to see a hawk chasing down a chicken! The very next day, neighbor was in yard with her chickens and a hawk was sitting in her small birch tree with chickens right under it. Lock down!! They have been seen quite often during the day.
I saw one today patrolling the neighborhood when I had my girls out this morning. It didn't get all that close, but I had my eyes on him watching and making sure he wasn't getting too close, and trying to keep the girls near some of the assorted junk piles to give them some quick cover.

Silly, if you have time can you PM me a pic of the walk-in, and the boys house.

Being a creative fabricator I've (almost) decided to build my own barn lights. I have a medium in mind but here's the basic desired outcome. I plan to run 4 lights down each side of the barn leaving the center isle open. Each light will either be a CFL flood or LED flood both of which produce 1200 lumens. I'm not going for a "brighter than the sun" outcome but rather a workable place in the evening. I think they'll hang down by pipe with brackets attached to the joists. Picture your heat lamp reflector you probably use for brooders. I need to find a free, or cheap, source for the "dish" part. I have one idea that is not dish shaped but don't want to mention it or ideas may not flow. Any ideas?
