Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

So our buff orpington cockerel is over 8 mths old.  I sure hope he starts to figure out his job & has it sufficiently in effect by early spring.  So far... no interest whatsoever, not a single fertile egg yet.  I'd like to hatch some eggs again.  Not that I was planning on hatching right now, I'm just impatient to see some progress in my plans.  He doesn't even seem interested!  I think he likes being "one of the girls".  He doesn't even crow!  Ya, I know... quietest rooster I've ever had.  :/  I'm sure he'll get around to it when he's ready.  He needs to mature more.  But but but... I didn't get to hatch this last spring since our brahma rooster passed last winter. I've got the itch & I'm looking forward to hatching again!  Hmm... he needs to "do his job" to pay rent.  That just sounds wrong on so many levels.  I'm glad y'all are chicken folk too & won't take it the wrong way.  Sheesh.  Usually I'm having the "pay your rent" talk with the hens.  I don't think I've ever needed to have that talk with the boys before (usually they're overly enthused about their job & willing to work for free... even volunteer to put in overtime. lol).  Yes, I know I have the whole flipping winter to wait yet until I should even be thinking about firing up the incubator.  I just hope it's not as long of a winter as last year.

A crow... just some crowing in the morning & it would make me feel better buddy.  Get on it.

There isn't a shortage of roosters around.  They're a dime a dozen & if I need to I will go to "chicken manpower" (BYC peeps) & get pick up a more than willing intern.  :)

My rooster is only crowing. He hasn't been paying his rent either...

One nice thing about our farm is the two bosc pear trees and so I used yesterday's miserable weather to use that bounty. I canned 25 pints of pear slices. I made a light syrup in which I had dissolved cinnamon red hots candy.

With today's improved weather it was back to firewood. I hauled 2 trailer loads from the woods, finished filling the basement wood room and then stacked the rest in the garage. As I returned to get the second load my old friend wanted to go and help commenting that he really enjoys working. While he ran out of steam well before the trailer was filled, considering that he has just about finished his 90th year it is pretty amazing how much he did.

Belated congratulations to Daron and Grace.
:love :clap

So, :welcome to all the newbies! And whats new???

That's going to look amazing!!! Walnut is my wood of choice for decorating in our home. You're an artist in many areas then!
Ick!!! Walnut! Working with that always makes me itchy. I used to work in a sawmill that does a lot of hardwoods and we all hated running walnut as we got all sorts of itchy from it. Some sort of compound in the wood that does it.

Congrats, Daron and Grace!!! You both look so beautiful!! And happy! Missed seeing you on here, Daron. Hope you have time now to stop in once in awhile.

What a cold, damp, dreary day!
Decided the birds are gonna stay in today...off to meet mom for a quick lunch :D

They hate being in, so I gave them a nice treat to keep them "occupied". Cut a pumpkin in half, then mixed plain yogurt, little bit of fresh garlic & fresh blueberries in with the seeds & "took".
Think they have completely forgot they'd rather be outside (& they love going out in the rain!).

got some more logs sawd into managable sizes to be split at a later time when a friend is available to bring his splitter over . it is oak (from tree thats prob a couple hundred years old) that been sitting for a year & the largest cut pieces are prob around 100 lbs , measuring 15" long x 21"across. NOT going to be able to use the axe or maul on these.
the tree is wide enough that if ipress my chest to it & "hug" it , it would take 3 of me fingertip to fingertip to wrap around it. it is definately a beauty to see, & pictures dont do it justice or it true size perspective
