Be *very* careful with this breeder.
Thanks for the warning, so far the ones I got seem to be doing alright, and definitely are Orloffs (or so I think) but maybe I will need to look elsewhere to improve my flock? *Edit* I just did some BYC searching and found someone else had bought from him as well, they were inquiring about what a "Blue Iza" is. After some emails and whatnot they discovered it was a fancy name he attached to a mixed breed.

They look good to me, but I'm not an orloff breeder or even owner. When you decide to start breeding, you will be much better off to have someone that knows & breeds orloffs come and help you evaluate you flock, and then get a rooster that is strong where your existing flock is weakest, being careful not to bring new flaws into your flock. A dedicated breeder also culls relentlessly, which is my downfall. I love my birds and don't cull at all. So I just buy birds I like and let them do their thing, that means most of my birds are mixed. I keep a few "pure" eggs to incubate every year, combined with my no culling, I've got lots of chickens.
Did anyone else have temperatures get into the 60's today?
It was good for outdoor chores like moving firewood from the back up to the back porch.

Didn't get to 60, but got real close. This was my kind of winter day. Even if we could get 1 or 2 days a week like this, I'd be happy.

Well, that makes four that are not happy. I would definitely go elsewhere...I privately send a good breeder (another breed) to his CL add and she said all his breeding was really poor quality.

Guess what "landed" at my house! I got the English Orphingtons! Thank you Rusty Byrd ! And thank your husband for all the driving! Not the best pics as they are tired and stressed, but I am happy!

The girls...

The boys!

Don't know what the temps were outside, but I was working outside in my t shirt all day. Felt great. Chickens loved it. All got a dust bath in. Even let the garage chickens out to get some fresh air and a bath in. All is good in the world!

It was in the 60's here today. Had the girls out for a bit and they loved it. They were a bit jumpy as I had been babysitting the ex's black lab all thanksgiving and didn't think much at all of that big black ball of fury coming right up against the hardware cloth on their tractor. Needless to say, I didn't have him loose in the chicken yard when I had them out. We do have a fenced back yard for the dogs to go out in, so he was out in that while Belle and the girls were out in the yard. Didn't go out for long as I did have to run him back to his mother in AA. Hung out there and did some shopping.

Had a reasonably good day but I don't enjoy the mud. It makes it extremely hard to haul square bales in and do chores. Weather was decent even though misting so I let the chickens out to free range. The boys decided they'd start spring early and try to mate as many hens as they could which turned into a full on, blood drawn, all out battle. The first time I let the skirmish go. The second time I interfered because it was getting nasty, not just a pecking order dispute. Needless to say both boys are in the smokehouse hanging cages to heal up. The hens seemed lost not having roosters but slowly made their way into the coop with some coaxing. Like having kids sometimes...
