She was/is in a wire pen (for air) surrounded by straw...Oh Cool!! Congrats!!
Is that the first time you've had broody hatch in the frigid winter?
Do you provide any heat, what about water?
congrats and look at that egg! I want one!!!!!!!She was/is in a wire pen (for air) surrounded by straw...
I offered her food and water twice a day. I waited until she drank her water, then gave her food in a plastic dish (you can see it).
23 days later...
Momma is a Wheaten Maran, dad is one of four roosters. I find it odd they look just like Momma - down to the feathers on the legs. Genetics!
I'm going to be crossing her with either my lavender Amerucana or my splash Amerucana. next for olive eggs. She lays very dark eggs...
I do think that because I spent so much time feeding/watering broody mama she lets me handle the chicks with only a little pecking at my hands....![]()
And yes on the first time...I had the flu and somehow eggs got under her...
I could only imagine what I would do with that huge shed.....prolly divide up into a lot of covered pens
Yep, now's the time to go out and check your gutters for ice dams and such.stinks when it's frozen solid. I noticed yesterday my gutters were holding ice
I banged the heck out of the downspouts to break some loose in the warmer temps, hopefully it did the job. I left the downspout extensions on and they are sitting in a low spot, which is now an ice rink. OOPS. Come on spring!!!![]()
They are just the cutest!!
Happy Birthday! Cute cake!...too pretty to eat?My birthday was yesterday and my daughter made me this lovely chicken cake. She put little chicken figures pecking at sprinkles and used toothpicks to make the fence. Isn't she clever!![]()
