This thread is pretty slow lately.....have all the regulars found another platform?

seems like it always gets slow in the peak of summer...I check daily, just don't have a lot to say

I use vinyl flooring in my coops, it is inexpensive and works great

Got our window today wanted to do more but the rains have prevented more work from being done.

Question: how do we keep the chickens comfortable during the winter? I mean, I don't have to install a furnace in the coop, right? (dumb question, but go ahead and laugh WITH me) If Yoopers are keeping chickens, they must be pretty hardy to be able to handle the northern weather, I shouldn't be too worried about my little Troll chickies.

Jane, chickens need a draft free, well ventilated coop to do well in very cold weather. Along with a free supply of unfrozen water, and plenty of food to help them keep warm.

O.M.C. : the vinyl reminants cost me a whopping $2.oo at the habitat re-store . its pretty thin, so we'll see how it holds up. also looked like a small roll, but was actually 3 pieces rolled together, but was still workable for the floor for the cost

I didn't see any at our re-store today, but you could go there twice the same day and find new things. Home Depot had some about a month ago for like $60. A bit more than I wanted to spend I should see if there is anything on craigslist.

It really doesn't take much to keep chickens happy during the winter. Mine got along just find in their tractor all winter. All I did with it is park it by the garage to block the west wind, covered up the top of it with cheap shower curtains to block out the wind/hold in some heat, and used straw bales around the base of it to block the wind and had straw bedding. Just remember that you don't want to seal it up too much, as you want some ventiliation in the coop, just not very drafty in there.
