WELCOME Walt, bantams lay very small eggs you know. if you want eggs for your family perhaps leghorns would be a good choice. they are small but very good egg layers. Bantams however are much sweeter and friendlier.

Thank you. Yeah my concern is I have a small coop. We would like 4 chickens one for each of us. I figured full size chickens would be too much for a small coop. That's what lead me to bantams.

This is the size of my coop. That's what lead me to bantams. I wish we could go bigger but it's a first for us. We would like 1 chicken each which makes 4 chickens. I know bantams have small eggs. I just figure we will have to cook twice as many hahah

Oh also we are looking for some fun ones like an Easter eager or maybe a silkie. These will be more like pets for us than just egg layers. We just like the added bonus of having both

You're going to want a bigger coop.

Oh trust me. Lol a bigger one is in the plan. My girlfriend and her 2 daughters live in town so we won't have many. I have a house in the country that would be perfect for a bigger coop. This is just to get us started

That sort of coop is VERY poorly built, flimsy and very short lived.
I like the idea of each of you picking out a chicken though.

Oh yeah I know this isn't a long term coop. We've already talked about self building one for a bigger flock. This is just the trial to get us to that end goal. hopefully we can get more this summer for the new coop

So Winter is here.. Only worries I have are my Red's combs, the tips are black on one of them. My Brahmas seem ok with the cold weather so far, and my one Dom. hen as well. Thought I had enough Ventilation in the coop, but I am now worried. Any suggestions?
