Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Does anyone know if tractor supply "warranties" chicks at all like the hatcheries do when you get home shipment? Found a dead chick in the brooder this morning that we got on Monday. I'm guessing no, but figured I would check.
They might, call where you got them, could be a time/number limit.
Bummer, always hard to lose 'em.

Hi, just wondering if anyone out there is a Waterford resident? I have an opportunity to get chicks and would love to have them, but from what I can see it doesn't look promising to have them in Waterford Twp. I do live in a subdivision also and that may be a problem too. If anyone knows info on this or where I can find it please let me know. Thanks

Does your subdivision have a homeowners association? That would be the place to start. And calling your township or getting your hands on a copy of the township ordinances to see what the "rules" are about "livestock".

TSC had the 3 types I wanted so I finally got some babies. Let the worrying begin!!!

That's what I figured. And I had decided that for the $1.99 I might get back, that's what gas would cost to drive there. This is why we never buy just one of a particular breed.

Can anyone give me the scoop on ducks? Do I have to brood them separately from chicks? What breeds other than pekin TSC tends to get? Super messy? Which breeds are better layers? Are certain breeds louder? I had DH talked into a pair of ducklings this morning but all they had were pekin and my understanding is that those are more of a meat duck?

We have call ducks. I had two in the brooder that were 10x messier than the brooder with 13 Guinea fowl. We have calls, the noisiest, because they are also the smallest. We do not have a pond so in the winter they just take a dip in the rubber water dishes. My girls just started laying last week.however we didn't get them for eggs or meat, just cuteness and noise.
