Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Holy ****, there's a lot of chickens out there!
Chicks are getting big at 6 weeks and mingling more with flock since I removed the coop partition wall a few days ago
Hoop coop build started. Re-banding of chicks, with cockerel ID's in place, happens this week. Cockerels and hoop coop may be leaving site within a couple weeks. May build another hoop coop to stay here, will ease the population pressure and assist/simplify the fall sorting/culling process of older birds.

Nice set up, love the adjustable ability, looks good.
Someone will be able to help you. I haven't seen this in my chickens so I have no idea. But there are some very wise people here who might be able to give you an idea.

X2 isolate for a while good idea,
So I got a call tonight from the DNR about that hawk I dropped off to them last month. from the preliminary report, he hadn't been eating much at all, and he didn't have anything injury wise that would explain why he hadn't been eating. They still have some tests to run on him yet, so hopefully they'll have some more answers about him soon.
interesting keep us posted

So I have my chicks, picked them up tuesday, and of the ten all are doing well but one. It is the smallest, and while it doesn't appear sick, it is not as active as the others and I've noticed that it seems to prefer to sleep standing up. She had a pasty butt this morning so I cleaned her up and she squawked quite loudly and peeped for quite a while after I put her back. I also cleaned her up again tonight. Tomorrow, I will try grinding some chick crumbles to powder and mixing in some plain yogurt for her. I'm worried that she may just be a runt and failure to thrive. I really don't want to lose her, she's one of my two GLW and they're the ones I got purely because they're so pretty. Do you think I need to separate her, bring her in the house and care for her?

Any other suggestions on what to do? I've read through the treads on pasty butt.

Wish you were closer. I'd give a great home. I have poults hatching this weekend.

YOU probably are being blamed for reporting the stranded drain chicks

or did you PUT them there,?? people today do not want anyone to makes waves in their perfect life, they haven't matured enough to know that there is NO perfect, anything, and other people have the same rights and some times those rights may not make you happy, so grow up , we used to say, live and let live, now it is live my way or get off the planet.
sorry, hope things improve real soon, and you can move out!!

just got my first humming bird on the feeder this year. saw an oriole yesterday but haven't seen one on my feeder yet
Now what did you do, RaZ? Garden City definately has a problem.

For the record, a friend shared a post about another city that celebrated the rescue of some stranded ducklings. Then another friend shared the link of how Garden City people were up in arms about protecting migrating wild fowl. I had nothing to do with either case. I neither reported them or placed them there.

Having said that, the local authorities do monitor this thread and subscribe to neighborhood gossip when it comes to leveling charges. The prosecuting attorney has told me that in the past and even used screen shots during prosecution. I would not be surprised if they were fishing once again. That bothers me quite a lot since I saw a strange car stop and take photos of the wild ducks that have been landing in my front yard.

I went to the court today and got a copy of the complaint for the recent summons. There are four (4) criminal complaints that are un-signed but deemed worthy of court proceedings.A warrant has been issued by the prosecutor. I'm not sure what will happen as the arraignment is the same day that I go in for surgery. Now the odd thing is that neither the court nor the police department seem to have a record of the complaint or charge. All they can provide is a case number without any valid documentation. That is to say that they don't have current paperwork.I now have to file a FOIA to get the details.
I sure hope that the city doesn't take away my emus.

I'd be more concerned about that Mangalitsa hog you have living under the compost bin.

As for the wild ducks in the front yard, try putting up a "no trespassing or soliciting" sign. If the ducks learn to read, it might just work.

To the wanker in Garden City who's taking the time out of their day to try to catch you with your Yaks, I do hope some Russian hacker steals all of your identity and takes your money, and then just for shibby and giggles, orders and has shipped a bunch of chicks to your house, so that GCPD would have to be on the chicken keeper list there as well.
