Live trap and shoot! When there's a skunk in the trap;
Hold a tarp old blanket in front of you (between you and the trap), and walk up to it quietly. Throw the tarp over the live trap, and then carry it out away from your buildings. Then move the tarp just enough to see where the skunk is, and shoot.
Generally they won't spray, at least until you are out there.
Bury it deep, or wrap in the garbage.
Always assume that it may be rabid, or have canine distemper, or something, so handle CAREFULLY!
Bleach the live trap and reset for the next one.

That is what I do... but I don't move the trap first. Just too risky. I'd rather have a stinky barn for a week than accidentally make a mistake.

for fence I would use 1x1, I have had possum and small coons go through the 1x2 also baby chicks can fit through

I've heard that about ammonia. What I read said to soak cotton balls in it and throw them around to keep critters out of crawl spaces. I suppose it would work in coops too.

My raccoon hasn't been back since I took him out of the coop. But I seem to have a bumper crop of chipmunks. Those little bas***ds are everywhere. Just one of the joys of living in the woods. Have I mentioned how much I love living up here?

Are you being sarcastic, Randy? Can't tell. I do hope you love it there, or when things settle down learn to love where you are. You definitely had a rough start. Have you put your mom's and your house on the market, yet?

Get yourself a barn cat. Mine has really made a dent in the chipmunk population.... I didn't think so many could exist in the same area but she's brought 100s of them up to the house for me to dispose of.

Any cat. My male and female live inside until morning and hunt all day. They have literally wiped out the chickmunk pop here. So, this rain is fun. Got some maple buckets out. Might scale back this year I have so much syrup in storage from far back as 2012! Going to breed the rabbits if anyone is interested in a Flemish Giant come Chickenstock. How about that rain?

I can't vouch for cats, but discovered this year that muscovy like to eat chipmunks, you know, just in case you want to add more birds.

We are all out of chipmunks here. They appear to be delicious.
