Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

For anyone interested in the Thumb (Tuscola/Sanilac County areas), the Mennonite place doing my processing is A.M. Poultry Processing at 4876 Sheldon Road in Snover. Phone is (810) 404-9805. She processes Tuesdays and Thursdays generally adding a Friday or Saturday often. $1.75 a bird, $2 whole in a bag, and for extra change (literally) will fully butcher. I waited 15 mins and took my 2 birds home. A friend brings a dozen and goes grocery shopping in Sandusky and comes back and gets her birds. Just a great place and price if you are anywhere nearby.

That's good to know.
About an hour drive for me.

Did they pluck or skin them?
Man, wish we had something like that around here...lots of amish here but none doing slaughtering for the public.

@aart
If Nappannee isn't too far from you there is a processor there we use.
What do they charge and is there a minimum?
We do have a couple options closer than Nappannee.

The low price, 15 minute wait and a 5 min drive(info from another thread) is what was so appealing.

Did you get to watch and learn.....or will you just use them to do any slaughtering?
I did not watch but probably could have. Was having an issue with my son on the phone so I was outside.

Haven't decided yet. I want to do my own at some point to KNOW I can do it and for the experience. But hard to beat the price for them to have the mess.

I will definitely use them when I want skin on. She offers just the kill also. I could take them home and clean and dress myself but again...why? If she has a facility she can hose down with bleach each night. Lol

@aart
The price varies depending on a couple of things.

The highest is $3 if the bird is an older bird and you want all the giblets. I think they range from $1.75 up to $3 depending on the specifics.

They charge less for younger birds (read meat birds) and based on how you want them wrapped. If they don't bag them the price is less.

I just call and find the current prices. They butcher on Tuesdays and Thursdays (currently). You can bring as few as you want. I just took a single cockerel a couple weeks ago.

But...it isn't close unfortunately. I pick up same day.
