In winter, we partially cover the big 'human' door with plastic, split so we can enter, and cut off or fringed at the lower twenty inches, for the chickens.
Our big door is on the south side of the coop, also with a roof overhang, and some wind protection, so it's not a big deal either way.

Well all this snow kinda stinks. Leaves not even off the trees yet. My new kitten I found in the barn has been in the house over a month now and still is seems sick. I've had her to the vet twice for shots and exams. Her eyes are still weepy but what's more concern is she'll be great for a week and then start projectile vomiting liquid. Lethargic for a day or two and back to running around and eating. We never did find out where she came from (found in my barn) or the age (less than 6 weeks maybe). Probably did not get the moms milk enough. Bothers me.

Hi Mary! Yes we started her on a canned cat food and have not switched. We did introduce a milk re-placer. The vet said try canned dog food. We tried that. We know she has the virus that makes her eyes weep and keep her away from my grown cats. What's weird is she goes a week great running around normal and then boom down for a day or two lethargic and throwing up. Jolene...like the Dolly song, lol.

I'm having major surgery in a week and will be laid up for a couple months. She'll be doing a lot of laying on me. A new best friend. My young beagle will not be happy. My farm will be a struggle as I won't be able to one single thing. Cindy will be off work for a month at least, beyond that I may have to hire someone. Oh joy.

Must be the season for surgery. A couple of friends are under-going the knife soon. And I'm looking at potential cutting on my hand and knee again. Getting old ain't for sissies.

I got home from work around 7:00. Went to the hen house to lock it up for the night. Turned on the light and find a young opossum eating out of the feeder. I guess he needed some fibre after snacking on a couple of eggs. He was a cute little varmint.

John, best of luck on your surgery.

If you are not giving your kitten a lysine supplement I would very much recommend Viralyse. Lysine supplements are useful in controlling herpes virus infections of all kinds, including the one that causes respiratory problems in cats, and infections like shingles. Many of those supplements are subpar quality, but Viralyse is very potent.

Also, was a fecal test run on her to identify parasites, especially some of the less common parasites? I recently got a young cat who had lungworm and coccidia. And even if the fecal test is negative it would still be a good idea to deworm, for that kind of a kitten panacur would be a good choice.

x2! Fenbendazole for ten days in a row will get lungworms, and many other parasites. And the Viralyse won't hurt.
