Quick question regarding winter ventilation....

I currently keep my coop windows open throughout the night to provide ventilation for the ladies. They are covered w HC so no worry of predators. What is the best suggestion as the temps drop and the weather declines? Windows open or closed?

thanks🐣

I closed mine up this weekend. But my roosts are right at window height so I didn’t want the cold wind blowing on them as they slept. They have ventilation from the roof and drilled holes and so far it’s dry in there. Seems to be fine!

Depends on where the windows are....hopefully you have protected ventilation up high that an stay open all winter.
Post pics of your coop and we can help you figure it out.

I have a south facing window on the storage side of the coop (over 8 feet away from the roosts) that stays open about an inch at the top all winter. In milder weather I leave the pop door on the north side of the coop open, but if it is very cold or the wind is out of the north or west I close that at night.

Here is the coop they are in now and for the next month. There are 2 windows, one on each side. The roosts are below the windows. Very little ventilation I know, I am meeting w my builder to confirm plans for their new coop which will begin to be built next week.

if you don’t mind, I will send you my rough sketch that I am going over with the builder tomorrow. I’m using many ideas from @DobieLover. Her coop is exactly what I want. Would appreciate your feedback.
Thanks!
