Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Sounds like 2021 is many of us something to look forward to! @RaZ....sounds like you his the mother load! I remember the photosfrom your last haul! Nicely done. Glad to hear you have connectivity:caf

what a beautiful today. Woke up to several deer in the woods to look at while drinking my coffee. That has been the greatest delight since moving here!

the girls are spending their first night in the new coop! The sun was such a welcome change and they have been spending days in the new run, but tonight they made their way into the new coop and hopped right up on the roost bars and settled in for the night.
I’m still amazed that they know to do that. I didn’t want to disrupt their flow even though there are few things left to complete. I’m so proud of them:eek:

@Folly's place Hope you are back at it soon. How many chicks do you order?

that surgery is not bad at all, its all the DROPS that drive you nuts. :) well worth it though, I love not having to wear glasses when I'm working outside.
The sun was so wonderful yesterday, when I first went out in the am it was 10 degrees, got warmer fast. Dressed to warm for walking the dog, but didn't mind taking off a layer. Hope everyone soaked up enough sun yesterday cause clouds are back :(
Have a great day all

Good morning!
The surgery was okay, and so worth it. The eye drop schedule is a pain, but no way am i going to mess this up by neglecting them! This is a good time of year for it, no actual 'yard work' to do anyway. And snow shoveling? Not me anyway.
Together with a good friend, we combined a chick order to Cackle for 44 birds. She's getting 18 or 20, and we get the others. The white Chanteclers and bantam Easter Eggers come straight run, so probably many cockerels again... She lost over half her flock to a fox attack in summer, so is replenishing. I've decided to cut down on other breeds, and have more Chanties, with some EEs and Marans, and probably the one SS pullet who's so interactive (say pushy!). Also fewer Belgian d'Uccles, another change.
Tomorrow our last steer will be leaving, a sad day, but necessary. End of decades of having an ox team, and boarding another. Odin is a sweet pocket pet kind of guy, but old and arthritic. I see him going down one day this winter, and being unable to get up. Not a better end. And getting youngsters to keep him company can't happen any more either.
Clouds again, and for the rest of the week! We've had our 'sunny day' fix, and it was lovely.

I still look back at the gate looking for the horses to come running up, even though they have been gone now for over a year. But they were a lot of work, and my friend who kept them here could not keep up with chores, so she had to move them somewhere else. I do not mind doing warm weather chores, but feeding in the winter when she was gone for weeks at a time got too hard for me, especially with circulation issues in my hands. Once my last pony was gone I was ready to be done with the winter side of things. I do miss their warm breath, soft coats and funny long faces.

The saddest part of owning animals is parting with them. Weather giving them away because you can no longer take care of them or having to put them down due to health issues.
We become as attached to them as to family members. :(

Not working today so I can do some chores around the homestead. Put the reclaimed display in the coop as a new nesting box. I hope the hens like and use it. They have been laying mostly on the floor lately.
I was going to use the wire racks in the coop for nesting or roosting racks but I'll use them in the garage instead. Should be good for paint cans, boxes, or who knows what else.
