Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

First afternoon outside without a jacket! Loved it, although too good to last very long. The chickens were out there making new dirt baths where there was snow and ice very recently. Got some pictures, need to download them tonight.

It was up into the 40's here, got the tractor out and cleared the snow from in front of the snowmobile trailer - time to put the sleds up. Did not get much use from them this winter.

Anyone interested in Arkansas Blues hatching eggs? I had a buyer who is nonresponsive, and a bunch of eggs that could ship out the end of the week. 12+ for the price of shipping, somewhere around $20, if I don't hear from them by tomorrow. Otherwise they go into cartons for sale.

Great weather today, though most of the garden is still white. Some visible dirt, so that's progress.

Chickens made a new dust bath in the middle of the run. Gotta watch my footing.

I plan to add some bark pieces to the run soon. Not chips; these are the pieces that fall off logs when hubby splits them. Maybe some tasty bugs will crawl out of them as they warm up.

Sooo tempting!!
If I didn't have a dozen chicks on order, I'd go for it.
Maybe next year.

Got 7 eggs today, most since August, and sold 2dz to a returning customer.
Thought I might have lost her over the winter, my first winter with no pullets. SMH.
But no, she, and especially her husband, were thrilled to hear from me.
That gave me a boost.

My chickens have learned to gather around when I cut & split wood. They almost always find some good bugs to snack on. They also gather around when I turn the compost heap.

I scored another watermelon box from work today. If anyone is interested in it then shoot me a message. It's pallet size, roughly 48 x 48 inches. It's 27 " tall.

Beautiful day to be outdoors. I got home at 4:00 and stayed out until 6:30. I have dry patches, some remaining snow & ice, and a lot of ankle deep mud.

This is what the brooder (watermelon) box looks like.

No room for those Arkansas Blues right now, sorry. We have more chicks coming mid-April, and hope to raise some from our birds too.
Bantam cockerels needing homes!!!
Easter Eggers and Belgian d'Uccles, all hatched last year, all nice birds. I'm keeping one of the two EEs, but not both. Should produce green eggs from daughters, and the light colored pullet is a cross between the Belgian d'Uccle and EE rooster from last summer.

WOW, it happens to be too far for me to drive up. Otherwise, I would have bought it from ya!

Handsome little guy! I cannot have rooster per my county ordinance. Which is kind of odd, I heard one a few weeks ago near by.

you can sell the eggs? Well, maybe because you have a big farm. I only have a tiny corner. Have been trying to get with a neighbor who is never there to see if we can do something about his part of the land that is behind mine. But he is never there. Other neighbor said he was a truck driver and barely ever home. I know that the part of land behind his belongs to my other neighbor but he uses it for hunting deer and is also a path for snow mobiles. They were running like crazy since early in the morning up to 10pm at night. My camera got triggered a lot but I am ok with that. Wish I was younger and had one of those toys.
I might need to think for the future and maybe see if I can get a bigger piece of land even if somewhere else.
