Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

WOW! So many things going on for everyone> That makes my question even more stupid than what I thought. WEll, everything is ok. Rachel is laying every day now but yet the same small tiny egg. On the brighter side, Monica (ISA), the mediterranian diet girl(the frog eater), began laying the day after that. Seem like all she needed was a "ribbit" to start. Hers are bit bigger than Rachels (RIR) but she is laying everyday too. It takes about 8 of those to make 3 regular eggs, lol
Outside, nothing, absolutely nothing is being done. My nerves are very high and to the point that I need to go away for a while. It has been raining on and off and so are the girls in the coop. I put them inside if I go out or it rains and then once it clears and I am home, I let them back out.
Other than that, the whole world can collapse and I will be ok with it. Of course, I do not wish nothing like that to happen to anyone but my mood is very volatil these days. Will ask the question at another time. Love you all!

Go ahead and ask. There are no stupid questions.

Ok, there are ignorant questions, but it's not the same thing. I'll 'fess up to a doozy!

When I was 25, I got a brand new car, and one of the guys at work came out to look at it. Popped the hood... Hm, Macpherson struts... transverse mounted engine...

I point to this big round thing. "Joe, what's that?"

Joe looks at me and says, "You're kidding, right?"

"Really, I don't know." (Knowing how really dumb I look at that moment!)

"It's the air filter."

That was funny! Back in the days they used to be kind of round and I called it frying pan.

Well, I think you remember the setting of teh coop and run that I envisioned. I have been letting them out temporarily towards the front of teh coop which is right in front of my kitchen door. The run had started but it is not finished. I have cameras ready and ways to provide shade because I was being selfish and want it closed to the house for the winter and all the snow. Well, there are no trees near it at all. Anyways, I have been thinking that I might not want a run after all. I would not be able to see them from the inside and window if they are on the back side of their coop. I do not know how safe it will be to just let them loose and do the fencing on the front of the house and one side towards teh neighbors and let them free. I might be making another mistake if I do but I wantto be able to see them and see what is going on. Let me see if I can find some old pictures on my phone in case to refresh minds. And my life is not getting any easier and I am honestly depending on the girls and my dog. They are the only ones I have and I can talk to beside typing on the computer.

I was a bit surprised you would go private buying when you work at the shelter.
I think I can get the logic. I've always got my dogs from a shelter or private adoption situation. But I got my first Golden Retriever from a Yuppy who bought the dog as a status symbol and couldn't cope with an adult dog. Got the second from a store that thought the pup was "defective". The third came from a "breeder" who didn't have the AKC paperwork. I did pay $100 for this one. Each one of these dogs were perfect in every way and I fell in love with the Golden Retriever breed.

It's been 3 years since my GR Maggie died and I have been wanting another one so bad. So bad, that I would consider paying someone for one. But I don't want to go to a breeder or puppy mill for one. A rescue GR is what I'd like best. A pup or a senior would suit me fine.

Having said that, if I find any dog from a shelter or adoption service that fits in my little zoo/farm, they can find shelter here.

Still, I might be tempted to actually buy another Golden.

Make that run for them. Even if you can't see them every minute they should be able to get out and roam around for a bit. They will be fine, I'm sure.

I accidently knocked down part of my run a couple of months ago and my chickens have been free-ranging around the yard. They go back to the coop to lay eggs and they tuck themselves to bed each night.

I guess my point is that even if I don't see them constantly, they are still alright.

Huddle box success! I checked last night, and the chicks were using it. :clap Thank you, @aart, for suggesting I make a better/bigger one and to widen the opening!

I'm planning to finish the brooder/grow out pen in the coop today or tomorrow. Yeah, wanted to get that done over the weekend, but it was too bleeping hot. Yesterday was eaten up with the electrician and a rescheduled chiro appointment. And, it was bleeping hot.
