Got about an inch of snow overnight. Something that the radio people completely missed.
Starting to get a few more eggs. I had enough to share a dozen with a friend. With all of my birds being over 2 YO, I'm thinking a few chicks before too long. I'm still arguing with myself about it.

It's still pretty cold here but I have a nice fire going. Going to have supper and then call it an early night. A good book and warm covers seem to be in order.

Got some snow here too, but it melted mostly this afternoon. My cayuga just started laying again! I'm getting mostly around 10 eggs a day right now from 14 layers, (11 chickens and 3 ducks).

13 degrees here when I got up, and single digits for the windchill. Warmer tomorrow, then springlike next week, so maybe, just maybe, this is it for the really cold weather.

The sunshine is nice, if deceiving...

Agree. It was 10F this morning, going up to 22F or something. It would be very nice if this is the last single digit weather for the season.
And there are chicks at TSC! Crazy!
None this year, having to keep the flock inside until (if) this AI issue improves.

I think Mother Nature is drunk. It was bright and sunny then we got a total white-out snow storm for a bit. Then it became sunny again, then overcast, then sunny again. The only thing consistent is the cold and wind. Ya gotta love March in Michigan.

Everybody laid today! My first 6 egg day!

Had a fun day. My brother was replacing some boards on a stall today and found a bunch of carpenter ants in the rough cut oak lumber we have stacked up in a small loft in the back. Pretty sure that back before we had the metal roof put on there was a small leak and got some of those boards a little wet. Not terribly wet, but enough. So I spent the afternoon pulling that lumber down along with some of the other odds and ends stashed up there, got it all good and cleaned out considering that its pretty chilly here yet, and I know enough that I didn't want a nest of ticked off carpenter ants all over me. It didn't take me long at my old job at the lumber mill when I was cleaning under the green line that the big heavy duty air hose was my friend to keep those buggers away from me when the weather was warm. You could get at least several different logs with ants in them during the day and they would be all over the place by the end of the day when I would be coming on to clean up under the equipment. Anyways, pulled all the lumber down, swept it up that loft, and its pretty well clean now at the moment. either way might be a good time to go through the barn and look into replacing some more boards while I got them all down. I know that there's another stall that needs a board replaced, and a couple of others that probably need it as well.

I'll get ants from time to time when I'm cutting and splitting firewood. I would usually take the infested pieces to the chickens. Now they come running when I fire up the chainsaw or splitter. Just have to be careful not to squish a bird with the wood piece.

I need to jack up the Jeep and check the rear axle. It's just too damn cold for me to be crawling on the garage floor even with wearing my thermal suit. I need to do it though as I will have to drive it the next 3 days. I hope it is just low on lube or something easy. I hate lying on the ground. It's getting more difficult to get back up again.

I hear ya!
Last fall I repaired the tractor on the grass with a bathroom rug, was pretty cushy!
Still hard to get up and down tho.
