Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

It seems that I have a broody hen. My buff orp has been sitting on a clutch for several days now. It will probably be a wasted effort. I don't think my chanty roo is fertile. He hasn't been in the past. I also have a duck sitting on eggs but she only sits at night. It was last year on the day of CS@@ that she hatched 22. I hope she doesn't hatch any this year. I'm not sure Dreaamz would take them. :gig

There is a frost/freeze warning for tonight. I'll be bringing in pots and baskets tonight. It looks to be a night for a fire and a movie.
Not at this time. Winter was very hard for me caring for them.

Long time... well Raz any decongestant like Robitussin or any cold medicine will raise your HR. Even smoking will raise your BP. That one is put of experience. They have for HBP decongestants. I had to stop my albuterol for same reason and asthma attacks are bad.
High pollen has had me inside for a few days. Still waiting for the title for the dud. Freaking tomatoes are not growing. But pengarden is up and running.
@Sally how do I know when onions are ready? How do I harvest them?

Old ladies are doing fine. I think poor Rachel went eggless like Sophia. Baby Mama was a bluff for broody. However since the 17th, Lupita, the 10mo old is sitting on big girls eggs to see what kind of stud is LoveChild, lol But she went broody in Pitbull 's house. LoveChild gets too vocal and I tell him, "swoosh, you are going to be a dad and your dad will raise them" ,lol LoveChild is also separated on his own loft with Jlo. He is too "cuban" with the girls and they can use a break. Today all are outside. He runs poor Pitbull and he runs to Mr because he knows I will run LoveChild back. Yeap! I am in the middle of that family dynamic some times, lol

You can cut the tops sparingly for green onions at any time. I take a leaf here and there, not all from the same plant.

If you dig the onions from the ground, that's if for that plant. I didn't dig any the first year. The second year, I'd take about half a clump in a few places. As they grow, the clumps get bigger and bigger. The onion bulb will split, and both parts will keep growing.

I might not make any topsets this year, or it might make a few small ones.

EWOs are kind of like asparagus: They take a year or two to get going.

I finally washed the car for the first time. Removed 10+ years of barn dust to find that the paint is in really good condition. Later I scrubbed the whitewalls and they spiffed up nicely too.
The only flaw to the car are the missing gap hiders behind the bumpers. I've decided that rather replace the plastic pieces, I'm going to section the bumper mounts and pull the bumpers in tight to the body. That will close up the gaps and look a lot cleaner.

Hard to believe that summer starts this weekend. I need to get busy prepping a mini garden for this year. I'm not going to plant much. Heck I might just do a few containers.

Four chickens are broody plus the duck. I really doubt that the chickens will produce anything viable and I'm concerned that I'll be up to my ears in ducklings. Just have to see what Mother Nature has in store.

Enjoy the day. And remember that CS23 is nigh.

If you are harvesting onions for eating, you can pull them up anytime. The longer they are in the ground the bigger they are.
If you are pulling onions for storage, wait until the tops start dying back. I pull all of them and braid them up on a piece of string and hang them in my garage, which stays above freezing, just go out and cut one off when I need one.
I had one onion that I did not pull last fall that was just sitting there in the garden this spring, it wasn't even underground, and was in perfect condition.

Looks like an autumn olive to me, sickly sweet smell right now? If it is, it gets a berry later that birds love and spread it everywhere. It rapidly grows, and can be hard to kill.

That was my first thought, but didn't want to go out and look closely at mine to compare.
I hate this stuff, invasive as hell, has some nasty thorns, and tough to get rid of.
It does smell kinda good, until you get too much of a snootful, then it's retchworthy.

Actually I think it smells good, but invasive? you bet!

It smells good, but I hate the smell now. Years and years of fighting it.

Exactly! .
