Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Got our first egg the day before yesterday, rushed to finish the nesting boxes yesterday.

And I HATE bats! I'm sorry but I do. Some years ago the house we lived in kept getting bats coming in and flying around at night. I have become traumatized from the ammount of times I woke up to their noises and having them fly around my head. I had one fly overhead a few nights ago while locking the coop up at night. I bolted for the house. In my mind I hate bats as much as I hate spiders.

That first egg feeling is the best!! Congrats.

I'm so sorry you had that awful experience with bats and it makes you feel that way now. It's nothing to be sorry for, it's a legit fear.

Bats are not completely a danger but their feces are. I don't want any around for sure, lol

Health wise is not getting better yet. I have tried so many things lately but have not helped.

Well, itty-bitty is a boy cause while he is the smallest, his tail is the longest. Coming around a bit in the evenings.

I have a 3 day weekend and it has been non-stop chaos. Started this morning when the elbow surgeon's office called to let me know that the culture taken on Wednesday came back with a staph infection. So I had to run to the pharmacy for the antibiotics that was called in. Combined that with some other tasks that I could do since I was already on the road. Four hours later, I made it home.
Finished setting up the big coop for the chicks to move in to. Then came the chicken rodeo to catch and move them out. There are still 3 running loose in the garage. I'll try again after I finish this beer. AND I still need to get the car ready for the show tomorrow morning.

In summary: I haven't taken any photos. :plbb
Curious what car show you went to? I went to the show yesterday in Berrien Springs. I'm in a Jeep Club and we kind of... well... we take over. Lol. Met some great people, tho! There was a guy with a Volkswagan something-or-other from the 70s who had adaptors for his 8 Track to play cassettes and cds! I thought that was cool.

Our bats pretty much died off, probably from White Nose disease. You're so lucky!
Have fun with the car people today.
One of my advisors at college is one of the top researchers on bats. So I always got the latest info while I was there. Even though that was 20+ years ago. All of my biology professors instilled me with a deep appreciation for all growing things.

I was at the Pigeon Summerfest. It was a perfect day for it. There was a 1974 VW bug there that had an in-dash 8-track player and a couple of cases of cartridges. That was cool!

15 weeks, one of the RIRs combs is starting to show up. I found evidence of someone in a nest today.
16 weeks now, wattles & comb much larger and red than everyone else. She's also getting very vocal/whiny the last couple of days. Red feathers found in nest boxes. Pelvic check today, just over 2 fingers. Everyone else is 1. I cannot find the answer searching, but do their vents widen early as well? Oh the wait!

Felt the need to share with someone.

My first layer had her comb get really big about a week before she started to lay. I don't know about the vent, I never checked. But she made the weirdest noises ever, I thought she was trying to crow. Later i learned that is the egg song. How exciting!!
