I've brewed beer using hops I grew when I was down in the city. Turned out pretty well for homegrown ingredients. Unfortunately my hop crop failed this year. I need more soil amendments for where the hop garden is. I was too lazy for proper gardening this year. Next year will be better.

That's rough. I'm definitely going to have to add more dirt before spring. I have one rhizome that is kinda poking out of the ground, the chickens prefer that particular spot for their dust bathing

Beautiful day here and I'm trying to take advantage of it. Planting some perennials that I got from a local nursery that provided a $50 door prize at one of the car shows I attended. Great prize to win. I just love the local sponsors of so many events in this area.

I'm taking lots of breaks because I strained my back yesterday unloading scrap steel at the salvage yard. This was the heaviest load that I've hauled so far. Usually they use the claw crane to unload me but the operator was at lunch when I was there,

Going to go back out and power wash the porch while I still have a little energy left.

It's time to renew my CPL, and I don't *have to* take a class, but it's been a while since I've either taken or taught one, so I thought it would be a good idea. I like to take classes from different instructors, as everyone has their own way to present the material.

I've taken a class from someone who lectures as if you're taking notes (because you are, or better be, in his class). This class wasn't like that, and my notes are a bit sparse. There were some things I wish I had down verbatim, but alas, that was not possible.

The range was nice, the day was gorgeous, and I shot very well. All in all, a good day.

Why you dhave to take the class? I didn't have to in FL because of my military background but MI wants me to take the class.. I said screw that,lol
I can handle an air 60 and a 50 on a tank, ram's and high arms but you want me to take a class for a silly 9 mil?

Meet a nice lady at the pop up. She told me she is part of this group. Unfortunately, I forgot her name. She said she never posts but hope that she does. Told her about our yearly potluck too. She brought me good luck. I had a decent morning sales. Here are some pictures.

I don't know what MI does for military. For civilians, to get your CPL, you have to take a class, fill out a form, get fingerprinted. $115. To renew, you fill out the form again, and check a box that says you still know what the laws are, and any new ones, and that you have spent some time shooting on a range in the past 6 months. (I think it's 6, I'll have to fill out the form and double check the particulars.)

I wanted to take the class... well, I wanted to make sure I wasn't rusty on any of this stuff. The class was $85, supplying your own ammo, which sure ain't cheap these days!

The original class I took when I first got my CPL goes WAAAAAAAYYYY beyond what the NRA or USCCA teaches. Three people I know who have taken both the NRA and the class I took agreed that the latter was really what people need to take to know what they're getting into when they carry a gun in public. But it's $800 (bring your own ammo, 500+ rounds) and 40 hours long. Most people can't/won't make that kind of commitment.

Military is the same. The thought is they want people to be actively involved in their weapon and familiar with it, go out to the range, etc before granting them a CPL. It'd be dangerous to allow an untrained person (even if they are ex-mil) plus a stressful situation trying to make that decision. Plus, keep in mind, not all jobs in the military involve active shooting. I was in Intel in the Air Force, I controlled the camera on the UAV Predator, so shooting a gun was not part of my job. However, I did go out regularly shooting at "the range" (a large desert area outside of Las Vegas, we blew some crazy stuff up). I was familiar with my weapon then, but not so much anymore, after being out for almost 20 years.

The class also includes a lot of info about interacting with the police after a shooting, where you can/can't carry, dealing with the police during a routine traffic stop (yes, you have to tell them you're carrying), the laws surrounding when use of force is justified (and therefore legal), and the aftermath of a self-defence shooting.

It's a lot to try to get into 5-6 hours of lecture. And then go shoot on the range.
