Dumped a bag of stall pellets in the run today, I’ll probably go buy more tomorrow. I just build up some little pads by the water and food pans. Seemed to do the trick. You can see one of the ducks up out of the mud while the chicken is ankle deep some of my hens must think they are ducks, they jump into the ankle deep duck pool every day.

My first set of chickens had a partial molt their first winter. I thought their heads had shrunk. Yup, they laid through it too.

Did they go through a full molt the next fall too?

And that is exactly what I thought about her head when I saw her last night. "Did your head strink?" She likes wattle rubs, so being able to touch her and look for new growth is easy.

Oh my, yes. One of them, spectacularly! Their partial molt was just the feathers on their head/neck.

Thanks. The sheer number of feathers last fall as they got their adult feathers was impressive. They weren't ever bald, though. I'm really curious to see what this coming fall brings.

The BR in question, lost her entire tail last fall, and her tail didn't come back as full as my others. I'm hoping this molt will fix that. I'll have to stop calling her tailless if she does though.

Yeah my mom came to visit the flock one day and freaked out thinking they had been attacked when she saw the feathers blown over the yard. We live in an open field so wind whips through everywhere, carrying all the molted feathers with it

Hello! I was reccomended to try this thread. I am from the south-east area of Michigan, south of Flint. I am currently trying to rehome now three roosters! They are all mixed breeds but very pretty birds. They were all hatched on 7/12 this year.
In order of their photos we have a beautiful black Silkie mix, no clue what other breed, but Silkie for sure as he has the extra toe, but he has a gorgeous green sheen to his feathers.
Second is a Barred Rock who I believe is mixed with Silkie as he has some funny hair.
And our last and most recent contender is my beloved Foghorn Leghorn, he's a Leghorn and Barred Rock mix and has very pretty and subtle "ghost barring". We originally planned on keeping him but he has started to bully the same hen the other two did, she's old and no longer laying so she has zero interest but he chases her relentlessly to where she completely seperates herself from the rest of the flock. He has proven to be very nice to our other girls though and is fantastic at watching over them.
All three boys do fairly well when free ranging together if anyone wishes to take more than one.
I want all my boys to go to good homes where they can live out their days. I am willing to deliver if you are willing to pay for gas.

Your roosters are very good looking, hope they find homes. We have an extra boy too, so they can't move here, sadly.
And we live near Perry, so not far from you...
I have taken birds to the Geyer auction west of Williamston, where you have no control over who buys them, but some will find flocks, although others won't.
Have you posted signs, with photos, at your local feed stores? Tried craigslist? Moving extra roosters is hard.

Best of luck finding homes for your boys. Sadly I had to kill 4 boys this fall, still have 2 left who fortunately get along.

A slight dusting of snow this morning, a very odd winter so far. And I am very tired of it starting to get dark at 4 pm

My ancient Dachshund is getting near the end of his long and happy life. At 16 1/2 he is no longer interested in food and sleeps all the time. We will miss his sweet face so much

2023 was a doozy. Hope 2024 is better all around!

Welcome @Chimera Chicken! Glad you joined us! You aren’t far from me as I’m in the south eastern part as well. I wish I could take a rooster, but I already have one. Although sometimes I wish I had a different one. He’s quite a wimp and is more concerned about his safety and food intake than his ladies…. But to be fair he is the only silkie in the flock, all the ladies are full sized. (My mistake I had no idea what I was doing when I got him) he does well considering. My birds are in a protected run so no need for an attack rooster anyways

Sorry to hear about your dog @1muttsfan, we lost our 17yo dachshund last year, it never gets any easier.
