So last Wednesday, only one surviving EE bantam chick, I called farm stores and found one store who still had bantam chicks, only 30 miles away, and dashed there to get six little guys. They are porcelain Belgian d'Uccles, and blended with our one slightly younger baby just fine. They've had both a heat lamp and the brooder plate until today, so I'll be checking on them several times to make sure they are all under the plate tonight.

No pictures tonight, maybe tomorrow. All babies were under the brooder plate, so far so good. Update tomorrow, may they all do well.
And I just euthanized a five year old Chanti hen, who's been failing all week. At least she wasn't one of the younger hens, but still not good. Wish more chickens lived a lot longer...
Saturday I took two of the three unplanned cockerels to the auction, and now it's so peaceful here! Only one male remains, a twenty week old Australorp, a nice bird so far.
There will be bantam cockerels, at least one is obvious already. Cute!
Rain! We need rain! All of 0.1" so far...

Good day from the UP. I’m curious about Fall color changes across the state. I’m seeing maples change in the north-central UP and in the Keweenaw, mostly yellows and early orange. It feels like Fall

I don't know how bad the drought has been in the UP, but down here, all of my trees are dropping leaves early. No pretty colors just leaf drop.

It's been very dry here too, and some leaf color, hoping for more, and early leaf drop.
Chicks all okay this morning after their first night with the brooder plate only. Yes!

My area had no drought at all- quite the opposite. I think I watered my garden once all year in June. Summer was hot, damp, rainy and then a cold snap in late August with frost- now 60’s and rain again.
It’s been great for mushrooms! Leaves that fall may be moldy tho- Too bad bc my chickens love digging in them.

Southwest corner of the state here. We had major drought this summer, but it's finally been rainy the last two weeks. Our leaves are for the most part still green.
