Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I will do that Opa. The old folks are going to love watching me hold that tiny finch down and put drops under its wings!

Last year I was trying to pry the little beak open and get one drop in there.....this actually sounds easier! Thank you!
Heck, I'D like watching that! Haha

Some mornings it's little things that make it a good day. The coffee is hot and our roof doesn't leak so life is good.

One thing for sure, the next couple of days will definitely green everything up.
Amen to that! It's raining again here right now after a good rain overnight. You'd never know we went through a drought by looking at my lawn. It's recovered VERY quickly. I've already mowed twice in the last week and a half!

just hafta share a pic of Chopper and some of the young Dominiques who like to steal his food. I thought I posted this up the other day but I don't see it anywhere, unless it got me in trouble and was deleted, I don't know where it went. Then again, I may have been on some other site where I posted it, my mind just don't remeber all that I do anymore. HAHAHAHAHA
CHOPPER:

AWWW!

Does anyone else trim facial feathers around their silkies eyes?
I just have hatchery silkies so even though they are 15 weeks they don't have good top knot feathering yet. BUT my polish roo....he's taken facial feathers to a whole new level. I finally decided to trim his because he was running into everything. Poor thing could see except what was right under him. He'd even run into the feeder/waterer in order to tell where it was.

And while it offered much entertainment and giggles for US, I felt bad so I trimmed. It was like he had a new lease on life. He's SO docile that I just snatched him up and flipped him over and he goes totally still and lets me trim. I just love him. I say trim away.

Wynette, Opa and Fuzzy - Thanks for the advice on the feed.

I've also gotten nice looking CX from Townline in the past. I haven't dealt with them directly but through my local feed store that takes orders each spring and then has a huge day where everyone from miles around comes to get their order. I've gotten some nice 5-6 pounds out of the 8-9 week old roos in each batch. about 4-5 pounds for the hens.

Okay, who better to share my joy than the MICHIGAN PEEPS!!! Got my first 3 duck eggs this week (shown here with a Black Copper Marans egg). I'm over the moon excited! I've never had a duck egg before, these are my first ducks. Can't wait to make an omelet this weekend for myself and DH!

ChicwannaB Welcome back!

I think I've either lucked out with roosters or they are all going to start crowing at once. So far I have the following:

Cuckoo Maran - 11 weeks
Polish, 3 Silkies and a Frizzle - 15 weeks
Porcelain D'uccle - 16 weeks
Uggo - 18 weeks

And to date the only crower is the Uggo...and that's hit and miss maybe a couple times a week. The Frizzle tried to crow a couple times but has since stopped. I'm wondering if they all know they are supposed to?

WOW! That marans egg is phenomenal! And congrats on the duck eggs! I use mine for baking, they also are fabulous when added to pancakes!

Question: If he wants them should I refrigerate them or leave them at room temp? I always refrigerate after I collect.
Eggs can be kept for weeks at room temperature, it isn't necesary to refrigerate them. While refrigerated fertile eggs can be hatched if the temperature in which they are stored go too long hatch rates drop significantly.
