Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

It is darker than I was thinking in there coop, if it was too dark would that be the reason, or one of the reasons?
The light/dark argument has been made for a long time. Usually people cite the 16 hours that production facilities use. They are production birds and not our muttley backyard flocks, so I find it difficult to draw parallels.
Ooh PLUS my egg seems to come after noon, I thought they laid in the morning as a general rule?
I don't think there is a "general rule", my ISAs are typically first thing in the morning, my BO usually around noonish. All 4 of the BSL's are any time of day that suits them...no rhyme or reason.
Can you share any trends that you notice?
I can noodle the data several different ways and get just about any result or trend that you like. That's part of the problem with statistics that I always had. There are just so many variables that can be thrown into the mix. Still it is kind of fun to play with.

When we were discussing the flea thing...
YULK I have fleas so bad in my house... I am almost desperate....

I have put frontline on them (for 4 months straight now)
I have bathed
I have hand picked with tweezers
I have vacuumed
I have steam cleaned
I have used tea tree and eucalyptus
I have sprinkled Borax
I wanted to try putting a light over a dish of water at night, but the fire risk does not seem worth MAYBE catching a few fleas.

I have no idea what to do next...

And they are only going to get worse when the ones outside start breeding in all the dead leaves this fall.
I DO NOT WANT TO BOMB!!!

Do guineas eat fleas? I might just get a few house guineas...

PS I would like to state that Borax does not kill fleas. Not right away, not within hours. In fact, they will even burrow in it. I have 2 in a container with borax... they are still alive from this afternoon.

we do too!! 6 terriers in the house. Hubby has been spraying them with Ovitrol (sp?) we got from the vet, at least the dogs who have been actively digging and scratching. The other night he said, Funny how Izzy never seems to scratch. I reacked over and lifted her leg, her belly was swarming with them!!!! But the litle chihuahua is starting to hate me cause he's blone and I can roll him over and pick them off his belly, I crush them between the backs of both thumb nails till I hear them pop. I'm getting so sick of fleas!!!!

do you think this could be printed off? I have been telling people about all this, but though interested folks are still skeptical about it.................Really, usually a change this big is televised, so it is quite a shock!
I'm sure that you can print it. I've had to play with formatting a bit, but I have been printing out as much as I can.

I've also been sharing the proposed changes with everyone I know...chicken people, bee people, horse people, etc. All of the GAAMPs are up for changes unless we speak up.

There are several GAAMPs and I've read through all of them, literally hundreds of pages. The common thread seems to be the alienation of any small scale farm operation, including the Mom and Pop operations that struggle to compete.

I don't mean to come across as an alarmist or conspiracy nut, but the proposed changes can not be helpful to anyone but big dollar commercial operations.

The reduction of citizen rights are rarely televised or made public until AFTER the fact.

Today was a good day for blowing a hole through my wall for the wood stove chimney. Just a few little things that I encountered...

Asphalt siding under the aluminum siding...

Framed in and some of that spray in foam insulation...

I should have worked a little bit neater...

I REALLY should have worked more neatly...

A little clean up tomorrow is in order. Don't ya think?

Cutting into an old house is always interesting. Under the aluminum siding was 1/4 inch styro-foam, thick asphalt siding, 3/4 inch half lap hard pine, then 2 layers of cardboard, rock-wool insulation, studs and then 2 layers of drywall. Nearly 9 inches of wall thickness. Yowza!

Super! My feed mill is open to the idea of letting folks know, but a short concise version of events is what i've been needing. :) Maybe they will let me put one on the bulletin board? :)
I get so mad when the big gov tells me what i should eat! If i want raw milk, it is my choice. If i want local beef instead of beef from china, it is my choice. If i want to eat my own eggs, that is my choice. At what point do i get my say? That's why i think it's important to speak up.
