Good Morning everyone!

Sam have a great day fishing with your son! I hope the weather cooperates with you.
My husband is going up to Manistee the first of October for fishing of some kind with all of his brothers. They will probably catch mainly fish of the hops variety in a can, but still making memories with siblings.

I had a nice steelhead on last night but my net man messed up and lost it - I just laughed but he is still upset ! Rain and wind set in as we fished, we were out pretty far from shore so had to head in after that.

Rained all night here, looks like rain downstate too, hope you remembered your raincoat Opa

Yer prezectally right but ya see since Raz is my Twin Brudder by a different Mudder I has been allowed to hang out here cause I am unrelated family!!!

And I, in turn, have been allowed to hang out on the Washington thread. (Where I have on occasion, stirred the pot some.)

Cool morning at 46* and not supposed to get much warmer today. The sauce I didn't do yesterday will warm up the house today.

I'm not sure if you have seen this yet. It was posted 6 times yesterday and today on facebook, so it is making the rounds.




It fits in well with all the molting going on. At least it hasn't been too cold lately for all my bare naked birds.

question about combining my big girls with my marans pair......I know that some pecking is to be expected, but I don't want to have to deal with isolating and medicating a bird again, and then trying to integrate it *again*

my 'big girls' are 19 and 16 weeks old and the marans pair at around 10-11 weeks old (I think, the marans cockeral may be a week or so younger). As you may remember, the cockeral hopped into the big girls' run a little over a week ago and got his head pecked at to the point that there was a quarter-sized spot with no feathers, and the skin was broken. He's doing great, and has been back in with his pullet friend for about a week.

My *original* plan was to integrate them, at night, when we moved the big chickens into the new coop, so that while everything was new and unknown and the pecking order may be in question I could 'sneak' the 2 younger birds in with them and reduce stress on everyone by having one big event, rather than 2. BUT, DH and BIL didn't know about that plan, and did the coop shuffle on Sunday. So that's out.

We did put them all in the veggie garden for the afternoon a few days ago, and the marans kind of hid off in one corner and ocassionally one of the barred rocks or sex-links would come over and try to peck the marans pullet (and the cockeral would cower behind her). The BOs and the wyandottes seem to just ignore them.

Should I put the marans in on the roosts with the big girls at night? Should I put one or both of the BOs into the run with the marans? Should I wait until the marans are bigger? The pullet is just a little smaller than my smallest sex-link, but the cockeral is noticably smaller than those.

They have been in a divided run since the marans went outside....about a month.

I would say wait until you can supervise what is going on.
Spread lots of treats all over the run/yard. Make sure there is water and food on both sides of the run/yard
If someone gets really rough then it is time to step in, otherwise sit back.

Mine were together for 3 days, night and day, until my BR roo cornered my EEs.
My EEs are still afraid of the others (even though the BR roos are gone)... Don't follow my example!

Today was supposed to be the start of the new docent season and I'm stuck at home.

My poor old truck broke down on the way out to MBG. The "stranded on the side of the road, call a tow truck" kind of break down. Fortunately, it happened close enough to the transmission repair shop so I was able to walk there (in the rain) and get them to tow me in.

Back home, I check the birds and one is going into moult. Black feathers all over the coop like a pillow exploded. Worse yet was the two birds who dropped their eggs from the high roost, one broke. That makes 4 or 5 days now that they have laid eggs from the roost and not in the nest box or even floor.

I'm going back to bed.
