Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

the worst part about those "micro-bears" is ,you shoot one and 5 more take his place

The higher the animal is in the food chain, the better you should dress. Chippies = jeans. Coyotes = Sunday dress. Bear = evening gown or tux.

I shared this story elsewhere, but seeing as I haven't really posted anything funny lately...

They don't do this all the time? My cats and chickens spend all day every day sneaking up on each other and charging, it always cracks me up! I kind of assumed it was normal... perhaps I should know better by now.

my cat sits out with the chickens to hunt rabbits and mice, chicken seem to think she is one of the gang and she never bothers them.

Tomorrow is hatch day. And no school. AND no work! But conferences at school, pictures of the kids, and a slew of other things. So much for having a 'day off.' DH has to work from 10pm until they get the job done tonight, after working 8hrs today, starting a 730am. Poor guy! I took the baby upstairs to sleep last night (instead of him being in our room and/or bed) b/c he has a cold and is really fussy. It was a good choice for DH's sake. I was up from 3am until 530am while baby fussed and cried, tried to fall asleep, and then would realize he was falling alseep and start to fuss and cry and wake himself back up, and repeat.

I woke up at 3 am to a very persistant chirp. A serama egg had hatched in my incubator!! I had pretty much given up on them as they were due on Sat. I almost tossed them last night!! So glad I was lazy and decided to give them 1 more day! Then I could not fall back to sleep, Stupid cold has me so congested I kept feeling like I coudn't breathe. So I was awake until almost 5:30, only to have my alarm for work go off at 6:30. It is going to be a long day!

I took some pics of my silkie chicks last night (part of the reason the seramas got another day!) They are 2 1/2 weeks old.

Could she have been picked on to death? Four JG pullets and one roo were added to a flock, the roo and three pullets are gone in the last two months. They are alright then in the morning my son notices that they are listless and by the night they are gone except this last bird she was fine in the morning.
How many birds in what kind of space? Free range? They can and will pick to death, a hard enough peck will cause brain damage and if there's blood...........well it ain't pretty. I saw a pic recently someone posted, it was heartbreaking. It very could well be stress induced fighting from a small space, or if there is something wrong the other birds can attack. That can go either way, sometimes birds will be sad and try to comfort the dying, and sometimes they will get scared and kill the sick one. A good space allowance is 4 square feet pre bird for birds that get to go out and range, 8 feet for confined. (Backyard farming book) Mine get about the 4 feet, and range, and i noticed if i try to add more there is bickering.

Women and their chickens packin' heat. There oughta be a calendar for that.

Nah, she's done one better

She got to be the crazy bird lady on an adult beverage label. Sunday dress and WHITE shoes, holding a coyote in the air with one hand like it was nuthin and grinning. Creepy cool!

That's it. That's all i can do when i see this........brain turns to mush and i can't stop smiling :)

I would love to put my Icelandic's in the fowl fest but they have not been handled much does that make a difference?

Kimmie
Hey, Kimmie - so sorry about ANOTHER bird lost!

How frustrating & sad!!

I do not believe Icelandics are APA approved, so they wouldn't be able to compete anyway.
