Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I've been watching my tomatoes quite closely hope to get every single one before the frost does. I can't believe how many are left on the vines and how slowly they are ripening. I softened a batch in the oven the other day and ran them thru my food mill. The product has been sitting in the garage refrigerator for a couple of days allowing the pulp to settle and the water to come to the top. I'll next ladle off the water and put in the oven to cook down. David suggested that I try allowing the settling to occur before cooking and it is amazing how much water you can remove before cooking. Try it, I think you will be pleasantly surprized.

thanks for the tip Opa... what do you set your oven to, to cook the tomatoes down, and for how long?

I have had a couple pests around for the last couple months and let it go. But today after watching her run into a chicken, refuse to be scared of me and hoarding food, that it was enough and time to get rid of her. So with tears for the cute little furry critter....

Notice Buzz had to keep tabs on what was happening.
you're way under dressed to be shooten them varmit critters!

I woke up at 3 am to a very persistant chirp. A serama egg had hatched in my incubator!! I had pretty much given up on them as they were due on Sat. I almost tossed them last night!! So glad I was lazy and decided to give them 1 more day! Then I could not fall back to sleep, Stupid cold has me so congested I kept feeling like I coudn't breathe. So I was awake until almost 5:30, only to have my alarm for work go off at 6:30. It is going to be a long day!

I took some pics of my silkie chicks last night (part of the reason the seramas got another day!) They are 2 1/2 weeks old.

Good Lord, the cute! Congratulations! I can only imagine waking up to the sound of excited cheeps.

It's strange that it's only the JG that are dying. If it was mold or anything else, the other birds would be affected also. Can it be genetic? Maybe because of their fast growth they are not getting something they need more of? Must be so frustrating to see those birds die and not be able to do anything about it. Hope you figure it out soon.

Just love all those chick pics!! Too adorable!!

Not genetic - Kimmie & I have been talking about this, and the pullets that died are hatchery stock - the cockerel was from me. So - completely different bloodlines.

I have not personally had any issues with my Giants; I also checked in with other folks who got chicks from me at Chickenstock, and no one else has lost any. So I don't think it can be e genetic issue.
