Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Herducks - be safe moving, just image your house in a month when all the moving is done!

More pictures but still not the greatest. We were told to watch papa that they can sometimes kill the babies. In the last picture papa is in the back and you can see the yellow dot of a chick under his wing, so at this point he is doing great.

Out of 30 chickens, I got three eggs today!! 5 broodies and the rest are molting!! Gonna have to tell the kids they're gonna have to buy eggs from the supermarket!!

Turned out to be a decent day. Not too cold and actually nice when the sun was out. No rain.

lol, no you wouldn't..... the girls are half bald from all the rooster affections and the roos are molting..... it's a pathetic sight really!

heres an older pict when they've seen - better days! LOL!

Got a date set to take the fav, silkie, uggo and I may just take the sumatra roos too, to the yakladys place to process. If anyone want's one, let me know now!!!

what kind of chickens are these they are very beautiful

Anyone know where to find cracked corn cheap within 30ish minutes from Rockford? We use it in the winter for chicken treats and also for the deer and wild birds but they are blowing through the $10 50-lb bags a little too quickly for my liking! The deer are eating the majority of the corn so I suppose I could go to whole corn/deer feed for them, and keep buying the cracked for chicken treats and paying a little more as they are slower to go through it so basically looking for better options for deer feed.

I can't give you specifics cause I live in the thumb. But generally speaking you pay 3-$6 more per 100 buying in 50 pound bags than you will if you bought 100 # bags. Is there a grain elevator near you? Call around. Many farmers now have their own grain mixing setups and I buy my grain from a farmer. Try an ad on craig's list. Good luck.

They are salmon faverolles. Great eye candy chickens. Good bird for families, they are more docile bird. Even the roosters mostly. Just not when they belong to Opa.. I think it was Opa who had a rotten rooster.... Anyway, medium tinted eggs, 4-5 a week during peak laying season, feathered feet and monster beards. Hardy bird for Michigans climate. They are harder to come by however... You can order them from hatcheries, but you may not get the best quality always, or what should meet standards. They are considered a dual purpose bird.

I can't read your post without thinking of the chick in your avatar saying it LOL

Haha, I have the same problem with Nova's picture. XD
When my husband sees me looking in on the BYC page, he asks what the crazy chicken people are up to. I've said BYC is fun, and this thread is often funny, supportive, and educational, but there's not a lot of crazy here.

And you're comfortable telling your husband such a bold faced lie? ^-^
Nova, glad your car got patched! As a single mom, I have left kids stranded many times when I just couldn't pull it all of and did not have anyone to call. Worst feeling in the world. But the kids turn out o.k. Just stresses the mom to the MAX.

Oh, my mum left me hanging all the time, I never went anywhere as a kid without a big, fat book, lol. I admit, it was frustrating at times, but usually it was just how things went, she worked a lot. She still works a lot. I never held it against her. :)
Looks like a good day for some outdoor chores. Powertools and beer.

Can I share the power tools and beer, and leave the work? :D

I wanted to show you my doll house! We picked it up this morning!!

I can't wait to start fixing it up and decorating it!!

How much did that run you? I am plotting a doll house for my girls for xmas, but I am nervous about, er... my lack of building knowledge, haha. Oh well... winging things is my style, I guess.

Lovely palette!
