Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

With today's weather a line for an old song comes to mind...........What a difference a day makes. Thirty degrees less than yesterday and tomorrow is to be colder still. I even heard the weatherman talking about the very real possibility of our first snow of the season. I didn't listen closely as I thought perhaps if I ignored him it won't happen.

Yesterday's mail contained the latest issue of Capper's Magazine is which there is an article about keeping chickens in winter. I haven't read it yet but it looks to be quite informative. If after reading it I learn anything new I will post it. I've started moving birds around in preparation for winter's onslaught and I'm already tired of cold weather.

Its been a couple of weeks since I've had anything in any of my traps til today. I went out to check on the birds and discovered a possum in one of the Duke dog proof traps. I initially thought it was dead. Rather the get to close I prodded it with a pole and it opened its eyes and bared its teeth. Sure glad it didn't use a hand. I came back with a gun to dispatch it and appeared to be sleeping again.

Elyssia, you can ask us anything you would like, maybe someone here knows, and post as well in the section that seems most appropriate - for example, managing your flock. The Learning Center above is also full of useful information.

Just saw your new avatar. Beautiful chrome!!

There's a dead deer in a pond not even a half a mile from here. It's visible from the road so I suppose it could have been hit but it's laying in the middle of the pond. SE Kent Co.

Elyssia!

Hi Sam! Glad to see you again.

Hate this cooler weather. Hate the thought of it getting dark so early. I really dislike winter.

Had a good visit with my son from Chicago. Don't see him too often. Had lunch with all 4 of my kids at one time.... doesn't happen often either.

I've got so many naked chickens. Wish I could sell all those feathers. Feel so bad for em.

Have a good one....

My MIL will be selling these for me this weekend!!

Cute! Where does she sell them? I love seeing what everyone else is getting crafty with. I wish there were more ways I could incorporate chickens into my business. I need to design a really cute rooster applique yet. Oh, and everytime I hatch chicks I take a really cute photo so hopefully someday I can branch into doing some photography prints for nurseries since I am already in the baby/toddler market. I have a really cute orange basket all ready for the batch that is hatching this weekend - will share when I get that taken.
