Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Brethren -How cute! Adorable babies. Your T or Hooter - the white one, looks like how I expect (hope) one of mine will look. Here he is now - doesn't show but he's just starting to get salmon/red in his wings too. His legs are actually very green, my camera doesn't show it well, looks rain splattered dirty like the side of the coop. Oh well.

Those roosters! I have yet to figure out what the heck that color is called, but it is the color my boy was. He had the prettiest beetle green, and under his hackles he had little green diamonds..........

This is the one i'm hoping will look like that..............the one with all the white. He has a bit of blue to him though, so not as much black. Then there's a black one with white bars, idk what that one is but i thought it was a boy but it didn't do any chest bumping, and aside from pinking a little the comb hasn't grown like the white and the possible crele ones. (Both surely boys from all the chest bumping !)

And "Kelly", one of the Araucana hens from Stacykins

She looks so shiny and fabulous! I just realized I never explained the banding on their legs. The left leg is a color for the year they were hatched, green is 2011, orange is 2012. On the right leg is breed and sex. All the Araucanas (because they are blue egg layers) get a blue band. Sex is either red or blue. So the boys would have two blues on their right, the girls have a blue and a red. Rudimentary, but my flock is small, heh!

I love all the many colors they may turn. I wish I knew of a site that showed samples of poultry colors with their names. Anybody know of one?

Quote: Thanks for the info. I was wondering about that and just hadn't gotten around to asking. Her feathers are SUPER soft. Even Taprock mentioned that. I was wondering what you were feeding them??
Also, need to take and post a good pic of Stella. She is feathering out very nicely! She has such a funny little chirp, very different than all the others.

No, but I sure wish if anyone does, they post it. I think the naming and identifying of the colors is probably the most confusing to me.
And the transformation as they grow and change is amazing!
Hooter was named by my MIL because he looked like an owl around the eyes.

They were getting the layer mash that my local feed store sells. But since it is molting time I also give them some black oil sunflower seeds everyday. They LOVE BOSS, but I am careful not to overfeed since it is like candy to them!

Stella almost 'quacks' if that is the right way to describe it. I always found it so funny too when she would talk! I am glad she doesn't look half plucked anymore! Her molt was more intense than any of my others. Everybody else only lost a few at a time, she just went WOOSH, and was naked!
