Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Chicken Grandma and Tim -

Thank you for the concern, but surgery is hopefully going to happen NEXT Friday. Will know more after his 4th follow up appointment on Wednesday.

And (hopefully) good news... I have a good line on a second job! Should know more on Monday.

Welcome to this thread Lisa! Are you new to chickens?? Glad to see another new face!

I can't figure out my big girls. My SLW was laying every day. Then one of the BSLs started laying. Now 2 of the BRs are laying, but I'm still only getting 1-2 eggs a day. When it was just the SLW I was getting 2 eggs every 3 days.
I can't figure mine out either. I'm still getting decent production. I got 9 yesterday!
The average per day has been declining slightly but the average egg weight has been steadily climbing each month.

Tap,
Is it cold enough that his comb got wet then contacted a cold surface? Tongue on the frozen flagpole thing.

I really don't think so this time. I have seen that happen with the metal feeder in the winter. A poor hen lost part of her comb that way. It was rather gross seeing all the "stuck" pieces on the feeder.

We have a nice - ok not so nice white powder on the ground this morning and there is still some wind. I have been putting off going outside. I think I need to invent a heated suit I can put on to go outside.

And another place to contact regarding the proposed changes.

Copied from an e-mail in response to the one from Bridget.

"The Office of Regulatory Reinvention (ORR) has an e-mail address, [email protected], where suggestions can be sent regarding regulation in the State of Michigan. ORR is part of LARA. LARA is short for the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. Their website is: www.michigan.gov/lara.
The governor has directed this agency to focus on making it easier for people to do business in the State of Michigan. I attended a presentation by their director last month. It is worthwhile to let LARA staff know that ordinances, enforced by Local Units of government, are interfering with entrepeneurship in Michigan and that MDARD can help by applying RTF in urban areas."

Notice that "entrepreneurship" is mis-spelled? You would think that the office that deals with that would at spell it correctly.

Please do. I think this lady is quite interested in what we are currently experiencing and what is likely to happen next year.

My sister works in the same building, different department. She is getting interested in this as well (being a chicken owner too) and may head up there one day for a chat.
