Just wanted to say Hi

Maybe post some picts.

Here are three shots showing the roof we installed on the barn ( as we call it ) . The stepladder in the left view is 5 ft tall. Lean to on other end is for gardening and storage of yard equipment and tools etc. Put 4 x 8 ft. clear polycarbonate over part of that. Can't separate picts yet. Maybe someday. Apple tree is Northern spy. Cut it back and so far have not been able to keep the suckers off Tree on north side of lean to is dogwood. Pretty in spring.

Nice barn, I wish. That cochin is beautiful, I hope someone gives him a good home. I love my standards, but the banties are so much cuter.
I have to agree with everyone else, for a rodent pet, rats are the way to go. They aren't "cringy", have great personalities, are clean, and don't bite. You usually can get one at a rescue, but get a young one, they don't live really long. Its rainy and gloomy here too but at least its not s... yet anyway.

Came back from the Ohio Nationals with this little 5 month old mottled splash bantam cochin guy (girl?) as a free extra to the blue mottled cochin pullet I got from Mandy at The Cochin Coop. She thinks it is a cockeral because of his pointed male feathers, but its comb is very small so honestly I am not sure if it is a he or she. It is very small, and definitely pet quality, but pretty cute and fluffy. I was thinking I would keep him and let him grow out, but I don't think it would be a good choice to have him in my breeding program if I am wanting to show. I gave it a sink bath, dusted bedding with Sevin dust, and applied Ivermectin last night just to be safe, but did not notice any crawlies. Looking to find a new home for he/she if anyone is interested!

very pretty! Love the coloring.

I agree with the rats! They're wonderful pets! Definitely gotta be in pairs or more. They're fun, affectionate, can easily be trained to perform tricks, cuddly, etc.

These are the three rats my friend Kyle owns. Their story is an interesting one. I was given a fuzzy rat (a fuzzy is a baby rat who has a bit of fur, but eyes are still closed) who wasn't eaten by a ball python. So I raised this tiny rattie on formula. My elder sister, who keeps rats, agreed to take her when she was old enough, and asked me to get her a buddy first. So when Mouse was bigger, I got her a friend from the petstore. They bonded. But it turns out, the friend was preggers! And so nine more were born. She was a great mother, at least! Kyle and I handled those babies from only a few days old, as their mother was cool with it, and to socialize them. The result was ratties that were so utterly tame and loving. So Kyle kept three girls, and we found homes for the boys, and Mouse and her friend finally went to my sister.

The three in the video are the girls, Shrew, Panda, and Gecko Paw. Kyle actually gives them the run of his bedroom (he owns a house) when he is home. The rats go potty in their cage, put themselves to bed, and never chew on anything they aren't supposed to.
Rats make great pets! The one we had would greet us when we came home from work... let himself in and out of his cage. Though..... LOL....... DH woke up one night with the rat on his face.. so we put the kabosh on night time travels. They were great to have around, but can smell if you don't keep them clean!

Talking about pets, does anyone have experience with micro pigs? I see one needing a home and would love to talk dh into it but......

no,,,,,,,, but I'd love to get some!! I'd really love to get some KuniKuni pigs. But I hate "fad" buying animals... though, small pigs, small cattle... all make since when you have a small farm!

Kimmie and Brethern... hope both your hubbies are doing well.

I had to separate my porcelain d'uccle pair from the other chickens.. The sumatra roo I kept beating the crap out of the roo and relentless on the poor little hen. They are in my brooder for now but I was thinking about putting them in a rabbit cage for the winter with the rest of my rabbits. (well, in a cage of their own) They'd be in a shed so it's warm and dry. Do you think they'd be ok through the winter till I can make up an enclosed coop for them? They are both sweet timid little birds and I hate to see them stressed out so much.

Got two days off this week for the opener of deer season! I'm a bit bummed to find out the land next to my parents has been sold to someone..... that also hunts. I was hoping for a little less hunting pressure in the area this season. Since it seams that everyone likes to converge on my corner and property line of my parents land. I'm near the corner just because that's where the trees are big enough for a stand... the guy next to me........ has a whole forest of trees, but chose to put his stand right on the property line, 20' from my stand, over looking our land........... that erks the crap out of me since for years, I only watched deer on their land, respecting that I didn't have the right to shoot it until it crossed the line on my side. Luckily they are gone... I just hope the new guy isn't a jerk.

I'm sure your chicken pair will be fine in the cage for the winter. I have a brooder in the garage and had the bantams in there over a bad winter. Even has a pop door and I put fencing around and shavings for their own lil run. They seemed very happy.

Man, the temps dropped, ALOT!! Freakin cold. Just let the hens out for a bit of grass time. Some ate for a bit and then back into the coop. Stay warm
