Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Here's my buck! And I didn't even have to leave the house for it!

The story is this morning about 8 a doe was in the middle of the field. The buck came out after her. I shot out the basement window with my DH's 308. He kinda walked away and I was sure he was going to go down. He walked behind a pine and I couldn't see him. Then I see him come out into a swampy area. The doe followed him and I watched him breed her in sight of the house but in a spot I couldn't shoot. So I called DH and told him I missed. I was so mad it was an easy shot and close. When DH got home I walked out to have a look and found my deer in the field behind the pine tree. So there were two bucks and I just thought I missed.
Congrats! I haven't seen a single buck in our yard this year and am quite bummed. The two does I got so far have our freezer stocked at least. I always shoot crossbow from my bedroom window - my husband keeps telling me to keep it on the down low because he thinks it is illegal to shoot from the house. I can't find anything that says you can't though, just not from a vehicle. When we move in the next few years, I will be tromping around in the woods behind the house to make sure there are good deer trails!

Nice buck!!! I got a yearling a few weeks back before hunting season... Wait for it... WITH MY CAR...

Thanks for taking another buck out of the car-deer equation.

Here is the guy I got from Scifisarah yesterday. He is a sweet little thing... But...

To give you a perspective at how small this bantam is...

The heat lamp is the standard 250 brooder sized lamp.

And next to the pink skinned silkie that is a month younger.

I do think that there is something wrong with the legs. I was watching him walk, he will walk backwards, wings flapping... He will go forward, and it looks like he is hobbling... I am picking up baby vits tomorrow after I get some money, and going to get him started on that with selenium. He is back in his little 2x2 coop area. I do not forsee him being breeding stock though with my black girls. I don't think he'd be able to get on them to do the deed. Look like he might be a special needs garage chicken at this point. I do not dare put him out in the coop with the big guys, or especially with Fritz the Jerk. Fritz may finally be cooling it with Fibber, and he leaves the silkies alone, but this guy is so little, and his feet are so outrageously feathered... Heck all of him is outrageously feathered to the point that I think that is part of his problem when it comes to walking.
He'll get another supervised grass visit tomorrow since I will be home from work all day. need to finish up the side yard before the snow flies so I do not end up with a broken snowblower.

I thought he seemed a little "off", which is why I did not feel right accepting anything for the little guy. I didn't have him out anywhere to walk other than in the cage so I did not know it was that severe, other than his being small. He is such a sweetie, which is maybe why he was passed on to me, rather than going to the chopping block by the breeder. I have never seen a cochin with such a small body compared to those feathers, he is seriously almost serama sized under all that...

Oh yeah he is. LOL, he is very sweet though, and I think as long as he's protected from any of the bullies, he'll be ok. The garage has like, been the hidey place anyway for the smaller weaker birds anyway. I still can not get over the fact that his foot feathers are so very long!

Haha, I to was sucked in by the label. Hated the wine though...
